    Missed th fedex package!
Im very ticked off as of now. I had a Black pastel male shipped to my house today, and have been waiting the last few hours for it to get here.

We breed shih tzus and have 12 dogs in the room that has our front door in it. 5 being adults. Not one has barked today, and they go CRAZY when someone knocks on the door, or heck even if you drop something small in three rooms over. I go to the door at 10:20 and look out it, and what do I see? The fedex Door tag saying " Sorry we missed you"!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Im in one room over on my computer makeing no noise, and did not hear them knock on the door, and my dogs did not go off? Why They did not knock on the door is beyound me. I know that they did not knock. It had to happen between the last time I checked( 10:10 and 10:20 when I found it) and with only 10minutes to get the rest of the by 10:30 packages out im sure the person was rushing. The last person to deliver RAN to my door and back but it was not a sign at the front door. If it had been and if I hadnt been waiting at the front door that time he might have done the same thing.

AND... to top it off, THEY DID NOT FILL OUT THE DOOR TAG! Making it even harder to get into contact with someone, and making fedex main frustrated at whoever left it as well. We're currently trying to get the package back and I am furious. The only thing written on the tag was a check mark and VOID. Why couldnt they have knocked then?

ugh I have to be at work in a hour too. Im about to burst out in tears over this and if nothing happens before work im going to be stressed out beyound repair.

Wish me luck, and someone try to explain what has happened. Ive never missed a package before because the other fedex people know how to hit my door.

How frustrating! I've had them do that here as well (and our front door leads directly into the living room, so there's no way they could have knocked!) I hope you got it figured out!

You should be able to get in touch with FedEx who can put you directly in touch with the driver. The driver can tell you their route and you can track them down and get the package. I had to do this with UPS once for some geckos that got delayed and weren't going to be delivered until after 3pm (it wasn't safe for them to be on the truck in high temps for that long).

I wish I could have, I was at work from 11:45-9 so it did not help. I talked to them for a few hours and they said they would try to get it out again today but it did not happen. I can only hope that he is ok tomorrow. Its been raining thankfully and the temps have been pretty low, so ive got high hopes that he will make it.

Maybe put a HUGE note on the door (near the doornob) that says "I AM HOME KNOCK LOUDLY MR. FEDEX MAN"

Crossing my fingers that all goes well. I would definitely put a LARGE sign on your front door for that FedEx guy for tomorrow making it clear you want that package hand delivered to you and the door to be repeatedly knocked/bell rung.

I had our first FedEx mess up today when our Reptster boxes were delivered and just dumped on the front porch. I was home all day, we have a clearly marked doorbell that you can't miss hearing but nada. Mike went to take the dog out for a walk and there's our box just left on the porch. Thank goodness it wasn't a live animal and our porch is covered and deep since it was pouring rain. I was less than impressed and if it happens again you can be sure a letter will be speeding off from us to the local FedEx terminal manager!

If you have not already, contact the breeder that sent the snake to you and let them know what is going on.

I really hope everything works out ok tomorrow. Crossing my fingers for you.

You know what, UPS really needs to ship snakes. Ive never had a problem with them shipping reptiles and they wait until someone opens the door.

Now, What do you guys think of breeders makeing you sign for the packages? Personaly i hate it just because this has happened. I know they do it for good reasons, but id much rather have it to where the guarantees work only if you sign for the package, but if you do not it is left on the front porch. This could lead to problems but trust me, if you have a reptile coming your not likly to forget to check every five seconds.

Personally, I think I would not want FedEx leaving my box just anywhere. You never know what the driver is going to do with it. At least if you have to sign for it, you know it is either in your hands or on the truck.

A breeder could give you the option that you give up the guarantee if you want it left without a signature.

How can you guarantee live arrival if FedEx dumps the snake on somebody's porch and walks away because they don't have to get a signature? This is a living creature we're talking about here that could be left baking in the sun, stolen by a neighbour, whatever. Signing for the package is the only reasonable, sane thing to do as far as I'm concerned when you are dealing with living creatures.

As far as I'm aware Reptster is supposed to be working on some sort of deal with UPS much as they have set up with FedEx.

I know, but really, if youve got a snake coming you shouldnt be doing something else. If they hadnt left the door tag I wouldnt have gone to work because your right, its a living animal! At least if its a sign or drop, they knock and try to get you, and not just drop it off if no signing is needed at all. Im worried to death because I have no idea how hot or cold the what ever he is in right now is, if he was left on my door step he wouldnt have been there for more than a few minutes.

My last shipment was from repster, and fedex delivered( late)

When I'm expecting a snake to arrive I always put a sign on the door asking them to knock loudly.

Signing for any live animal delivery is a must, protects both sides of the transaction.

It sucks that you missed your FedEx guy, but with live animals, signature required for sure. That's why I always got all my animals delivered to my work and signed for. No missed work days (which would have been a lot) and no chance of missing the FedEx guy. My office manager hated me for having to accept live snakes and lizards and big boxes of rats, but I never missed a delivery.

I do not require signatures on my packages for that specific reason. I don't want to sound like I don't care about my customers, but you should be home and expecting the delivery. So, if you have not seen the package by 10:30am, check the porch, as it should be there. I do know that they have left some of my boxes on a doorstep before, when the customer was home, but they typically try to put it in the shade, because it says perishable all over the box.

I hope your snake is alright.

That makes some sense Tim, but what is your policy there? What if a customer finally goes out there and sees the package at 3:00 and opens up a dehydrated animal? It's hard to say what the safest method is. If the customer has an IQ over 70, then you'll most likely be OK, but if you're dealing with an idiot, I would think you would want that signature by 10:30. I've only had to ship a couple of times in the past, but it's got me wondering what the best way is for the animals and to cover my own ass.

I agree, I know my FedEx guy and he is petrified of my dog so he puts package down, rings bell(if I'm lucky) and leaves. I watch the door like a hawk and have never missed a package or had any problems.(Thank God);)

Almost all of my deleveries have benn Fed Ex, they all went very well, but our Fed Ex guy is about 55 years old and has been doing the job for over 25 years. He doesnt seem like hes in a hurry. However my last delivery of three female babies was delivered by UPS and the guy knocked but then left the package at the door, by the time I got to the door all I saw was a UPS truck driving off, it made me wonder what would have happened if I didnt hear it... This can happen no matter what carrier you use....

Have you ever heard of a signature waiver?
Even if I specify a signature is required, if the buyer has a waiver on file with Fed Ex, they will just drop the box and leave. The waiver overrides me asking for it.
I ask people to take it off if they have one since I don't know (Fed Ex does not give you that info when you prepare a shipment)and have to rely on the buyer saying whether they have one or not. Problem is, no buyer has ever removed it as asked.

Somehow I think you'd be complaining and seeing the other side of this if your package containing a live snake got dumped on your porch and some neighbour walked off with it or a wandering dog nailed it or it got left on the wrong porch. Things like that can happen, some of them in a matter of moments. No snake deserves being left unattended like that. To my mind, that's irresponsible behaviour.

Also as a breeder how would you be able to confirm your customer who says the snake arrived dead because you did something wrong had in fact left the snake sitting on his porch in the blazing sun all day because a signature wasn't required? Signatures protect both sides and make sense.

    Re: Missed th fedex package!
Most breeders websites that I have seen say they guarantee live delivery, but if you are not home on the first attempt the breeder doesnt guarantee the delivery.... Its hard to say what the breeder will do here if the snake dies.... I do hope the best for you though, just keep in mind that they are pretty tough creatures...

I have had many packages dropped with no knocking even though I was always there to get it.
I require buyers to email me within 2 hours of the animal arriving. By checking Fed Ex's website, I know when it is delivered.
If I do not hear from someone within 2 hours of arriving the live arrival guarentee is void.
It doesn't take much time at all to shoot off an email saying "the animal is here".
A seller has NO way to guarentee that the driver will knock and make someone sign for the package even if the seller wants them to.

I agree, but say the snake dies at fedex because the person failed to knock on my front door, either because they forgot in a rush or were scared of the words "Live reptile" on the box. I do not even have neighbours gladly, or strey dogs:) But again, its not like im going to check four hours later, I was checking every five or ten minutes to see if I could see the truck coming down the road, and listening for the knock or even the truck to pull up. The room im in has a veiw of the front door, its just im faceing the other way on my computer so I could not see the lady with the box. I would have gladly let them just drop it off and have never had a problem with it before with the 20+ reptiles ive had shipped to my home. Maybe she is a part time ninja and skilled at avoiding me?

BTW, I made ten sines and taped them to the door saying " Fedex- PLEASE KNOCK LOUDLY. SOMEONE IS HOME. DOGS WILL BARK WHICH IS A GOOD THING, SHOULD BE THERE WITHIN SECONDS BUT JUST IN CASE, DO NOT GIVE UP. ."

since it was next day delivery the driver just snuck up and hung a door tag to make it seem like it was your fault, hopefully it was on the wrong truck and not misdeliverd to some clown who thinks he just scored a cool garter snake

I know I would be a little late to work to make sure a snake doesn't die.

As far as leaving packages, I've had 2 reptile deliveries in the last week. One UPS, One FedEx. Both dropped at the door with no knocking or ringing of the bell. I know to go out and look because the drivers DON'T CARE. DHL is the only delivery company that always rings and makes me sign. FedEx and UPS leave anything and everything.

Sadly if im late for work id be dismissed strait away, because if im late peoples lives are endangered. Thats the downside to being a lifegaurd. A baby did happen to fall into the pool so im glad i did not linger! Its not like I can just call in and get someone to cover my shift because I work alone. The only way id miss work is if the package did not arrive and nothing/no one notified me why, then id pull some awfully tight strings.

    Re: Missed th fedex package!
I live in AZ so I have to be really careful about this stuff.. I have anyone shipping me live reptiles to have the packages held at the FedEx office and I pick them up as soon as the office opens up (8-9 am and its 3 miles down the road from my house). I have never had a problem that way, I did have one breeder that was not willing to have my package held at the office but it was during the winter so I decided it would be fine.. I waited in my living room by the front door all morning and FedEx NEVER knocked, they just left the package sitting out side my front door and when I checked the tracking information it said they had it sitting out there for over an hour.

I also live in AZ and its really hard during the summer to get snakes shipped becuase, they do just leave them at the front of your door, but its usually around 100 by 10.30 when they are delivered, so i just wait at the door step for my packages, im glad that you finnally got your snake and thats its ok.

Very glad you got the snake safe and sound...and feisty. :)

I agree that signatures protect all sides... but I also agree that FedEx and UPS just don't give a rat's behind. I would think that anyone having a live animal delivered would be hovering by the window and door all morning, if not sitting out on the porch waiting. :) I know I was both times I had a snake shipped. I was wired for the smallest sound, since I lived on the third floor at the time.
Both snakes arrived fine, around 11:30, and the delivery people did knock but very quietly. Also, I noted that both times despite the stamps of 'live harmless reptile' the carriers had no idea they were holding snakes.

So next time you ship a snake, make sure to really stamp that box. The best place to put such stamps, including the 'Do Not leave in Sun' one, is right on top near the address label since that label is the ONLY thing those people look at.

All I know, is that if I have a live snake coming over I will skip class and hang out on my porch with my MP3 player and embroidery until that truck pulls up. :)

If the customer has an IQ over 70, then you'll most likely be OK, but if you're dealing with an idiot, I would think you would want that signature by 10:30. I've only had to ship a couple of times in the past, but it's got me wondering what the best way is for the animals and to cover my own ass.

Jake, you have a very good point. I have fought with myself over this specific topic for quite awhile, as I can see the downfalls of each side of the matter. I would rather the box be delivered, instead of potentially riding in a very hot truck all day long (especially right now, being summer, when I am sending some boxes that are near to the upper limit of temps as set by me). With that said, I ask all of my customers to please call me when they receive their snake, and let me know how it is. If I see on FedEx that the package has been delivered, and I haven't heard from them within 2 hours, I will call, and find out what is going on. That way, they get a "backup alert" that there snake has been delivered (potentially to ther doorstep).

The biggest pet peeve that I have is when a customer does not let you know that they got the snake. It is just as important for me to know that you got your snake as it is for you to know. I really care about my animals, and get nervous every time on of them is in transit. So, please call your shipper and let them know everything is good when you get a box, as I am sure that everyone else is just as "wrecked" as me until they know it arrived safe.

I'm glad to hear that he is just fine. This is a prime example of why it is so important to package the animals as securely as possible, and always think about the worst case scenario and plan for it.

    I love the name.

This is directed at no one in particular but I can't believe how many people don't use common sense when it comes to receiving their packages. Sure unforeseeable thing happen but if you have an animal being delivered don't expect Fedex to make sure that package gets safely into your hands take the responsibility to see that it's done. I've had very few undelivered packages but the ones that do go astray the customer is almost always part of the blame - if you've had problems with Fedex delivering to your house in the past, your door bell doesn't work, you work the night shift and sleep in late, the delivery guys are afraid of your pitbull, etc. etc. -- then either leave a note on the door for the guy to leave the package next to the door if you don't answer or let me know and I'll have them hold it for you at the nearest center. It's basically become part of my shipping procedure to tell people this when I send them their tracking information - I shouldn't have to but I haven't had a missed package since. :D

Anyway rant over -- I am glad little Fedex made it safe and sound! Post some picts!
