State Reptile?

I was browsing the web the other day looking for Hikes and trails locally to go on with my girlfriend and i was reading up on the wildlife one of the places had. It mentioned Desert Tortoises and it also said that is the California State Reptile...


So it made me think... What are some other states reptiles and did any of you know you had a state reptile?

washington state (where im stationed at) has the pacific tree frog as their state amphibian but no state reptile.

florida (where i am from) has the american alligator as its state reptile.

thats pretty neat, I had no idea there were state reptiles. I dont know if CA has a state amphibian

Here in Massachusetts, the State reptile is the Garter Snake

Texas state reptile is the Horned Lizard. Nifty.

In NJ where I live now, there isn't a state reptile that I know of. In KS, where I lived for 22 years prior to NJ, the state reptile is the Ornate Box Turtle... :gj:

In the OK its the Collard Lizard

huh!!! i just looked and ohios is the black racer... i did not know that...

LOL, yep and our state bug is the Ladybug :O

I learned all the state animals when I was in 4th grade, along with the state flower, state tree and all that stuff... I just forgot about them until you posted this thread... Had to dig WAY back in my mind for that one.

haha they never told us about the stare reptile and stuff, i know the flower and animal and stuff like that lol

Where I grew up in Arizona its the Ring Nosed Rattlesnake, but growing up my teachers in school told me it was the Gila Monster... Maybe it changed...

Aww... Michigan's is a painted turtle. I declare the new Michigan reptile to be the Northern Water snake!!!!! We all know Mike Roe loves em! :D

Hmm, apparently South Carolina's, which is where I'm originally from, is the loggerhead sea turtle. At least we have good taste. :D

yeah i like the painted turtles and all, but that's about as boring as our state bird - the robin!
i say massasauga rattlesnake.

I just looked at www.wisconsin.gov at the state symbols page... They have a state soil, bird, insect, plant, animal, domesticated animal, dog, etc, but no state reptile!

The alligator is Louisiana's state reptile.

That episode was hilarious.

In NC, the state reptile is the Eastern Box Turtle. Wikipedia has a list of them at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...state_reptiles

It's kinda funny how three states (FL, LA, MS) have the American Alligator.

GA is the Gopher Tortoise!

Anyone care to guess what our state vegetable is? It's probably so obvious - folks won't think of it.

I had to as well, I think the rattler is also one very bad ass snake too! Maybe that one should be the state reptile! :gj:
