    Any squeamish sexers?
I am in charge of the snakes here. I own them.. my husband likes them, but they are not his, they are mine. I care for them, and their feeders that I breed, 100%. I got into breeding and last year, had my first successful year. So.. I am baby-snake-sexing phobic. :) I have no problem probing or popping adults and even subadults properly. But the hatchlings.. nope! My husband does it. See, almost every time he pops the babies, they squirt urate! I have developed what the gun world might call a "flinch" and I just don't pop babies. Is this the weirdest thing ever or what (well ok maybe it is not, but it is weird!)

Nope, I just pop them over the sink and have a paper towel handy. Karl's got no interest in them, so it's up to me for all the care!

I have learned with any snake... I tilt them over a paper towel first and do a few thumb rolls... as inevitably they are going to urinate of defecate...

I was in a pet store and the woman asked me to sex a shipment of baby BPs, being the fool that I am I agreed... first one projectile peed in my eye and blinded me. :O

Since then I am a bit more cautious, but I still do it. :)

I am just afraid to pop babies cause I'm afrid to hurt them :( I've never had anyone to show me in preson (the vet wouldent), and even though I've read about it and watched videos on it Im just so afraid that I will do something wrong and hurt them- So for every snake I have to go to the vet and spend $40 for them to pop/probe my snakes.. And thats $40/per snake.... I need to grow some nads  lol

Projectile fluids happen to me often.

Wipe away and continue, wash when you are done.

    I guess I just don't mind...

I also exclusively care for all of my snakes, and I can pop all the hatchlings now with no problems. Having so many babies this season gave me a lot of practice in that area and it is really very easy now. The urates don't happen to me often, I guess i'll just consider myself lucky.

I have to agree with rapture i dont really have any problems popping no urates squirting here i think with alot of pratice this doesnt happen as much. I also think the ralph davis videos really helped me out. the One think i can say really work for me is put one tumb close to the cloaca and the other tumb about half way down the tail and roll toward the cloaca dont push from the digestive track and squirt feces the hemipenes are inverted in the base of the tail. Maybe this will help with the golden showers:rolleyes:

Sounds like me and rat cleaning; no matter how hard you try to stay clean, you are just gonna get rat turds (fresh, warm and squishy) under your fingernails.

That's why there's soap and hot water!

:weirdface Umm... are you building rat castles in there or something? I can honestly say I have never gotten rat poo under my fingernails... I hardly get dirty at all on cleaning day!

I can only pop babies. I have to probe them once they're like 300g+, and I still get nervous when I probe.

Same here, I know I'm going to just have to get over it but I get really anxious about hurting the snake or causing permanent damage. I had asked my vet to show me how to pop, but he said he doesn't pop because of the risks. I know when done right there isn't much risk but I didn't press the issue with him.

This may not be the same but I was so nervous about popping young Children's pythons when I started. I kept thinking I was going to apply to much pressure and "break" something!

Oh, I hear you there! I take my rings off for cleaning for that reason also.
I think that I'll just try the popping thing again.. but just aim it at someone other than myself? :P
