    NEw snake already problem HELP
well I got my two het pieds yesterday ( bought from someone on this site) and they are really beautiful my dream come true to some day produce pieds but anyway dream kinda smashed as soon as I tucked each into there inclosures I went to check on them to see how they were and the male is drooly and yawning all the time and I am almost 100% sure he has RI what do you guys think sounds like it right?? so know I have to go to the vet with my brand new snake urrrrrrrr so what should I do till I get him to the vet tomorrow up the humidity? leave him be? and what about the sell is it fair to ask for vet costs since I just got him yesterday

the other snake looks to be healthy they were not housed together but should I treat her too?

Well, I don't believe RI's happen over night. Contact the seller, first of all.

I would be calling or emailig the seller first off, he just didn't get sick( if he even is, it could be stress from The trip) at your house. You could up the humidity a bit. Is there any mucus?

EDIT: Nate with the money has fast fingures!!

Double edit: I notice it say drooly snakes army drooly from trips....

Most people offer health guarenty, so you need to contact the seller.

I'm going to assume you have these two new snakes in quarantine away from the others you own, right? As others have suggested, you need to contact the seller as soon as possible. I'd personally put it in writing plus back that up with a voicemail message left.

    Ah,

You might want to tighten up the quarantine angle a bit if your going to be bringing a lot of animals in and out - there are some really nasty diseases that seem to be airborne and the one that scares me the most has not been nailed down on transmission factors at all from the last I heard. :(

Do you treat the new arrivals and their housing with P.A.M. or similar to prevent the transmission of disease via parasites as much as possible?

Melissa asked about peoples quarantine regimes in another thread but I don't recall many people giving their "recipie".

Might be a good question for reptile radio or snakebytes - maybe even with the advice from a recognised herp vet who is familiar with the possible risks and best practices.

    Sorry I'm rambling again.

they all got new tubs so no worries there nothing has ever been housed in there inclosures before as for air born even if I housed them in another room they could get sick right??

    Hi,

Possibly - I have no figures on how much the risk drops with distance.

I know it does but whether any dwelling is large enough to make a difference I simply don't know.

I know a lot of people have mentioned putting PAM as a barrier on the entrances to the quarantine and snake room. This is why I think a good resource people could refer too and realistically assess risk would be a neat idea.

Quarantine isn't different tubs in the same room or at least that's not what I was taught. QT should be in seperate rooms with all seperate equipment and supplies and you should always take care of your regular collection snakes first, QT snakes last (then you don't go back to your regular collection that night).

You didn't research this person before you purchased snakes off them?

That's very bad if someone sold you a sick snake I would even question them even being hets if someone sold it not healthy, you may have $30 worth of sick snakes,I would be POed.

    sjs,

Bump up the hot spot temp to 94, take him to the vet tomorrow.

They were purchased from us on May 10 2008, they are 2007 snakes and have been problem free.

Even though you didn't purchase them directly from us and they have been out of our care for 46 days, if he does not make it we will send you another 100% het pied male.

I sent you an email with my cell #, call me tomorrow after the vet visit.

    Thanks,

    Rich
