Re: NEw snake already problem HELP

    Ah,

You might want to tighten up the quarantine angle a bit if your going to be bringing a lot of animals in and out - there are some really nasty diseases that seem to be airborne and the one that scares me the most has not been nailed down on transmission factors at all from the last I heard.

Do you treat the new arrivals and their housing with P.A.M. or similar to prevent the transmission of disease via parasites as much as possible?

Melissa asked about peoples quarantine regimes in another thread but I don't recall many people giving their "recipie".

Might be a good question for reptile radio or snakebytes - maybe even with the advice from a recognised herp vet who is familiar with the possible risks and best practices.

    Sorry I'm rambling again.

Re: NEw snake already problem HELP

    Hi,

Possibly - I have no figures on how much the risk drops with distance.

I know it does but whether any dwelling is large enough to make a difference I simply don't know.

I know a lot of people have mentioned putting PAM as a barrier on the entrances to the quarantine and snake room. This is why I think a good resource people could refer too and realistically assess risk would be a neat idea.

Quarantine isn't different tubs in the same room or at least that's not what I was taught. QT should be in seperate rooms with all seperate equipment and supplies and you should always take care of your regular collection snakes first, QT snakes last (then you don't go back to your regular collection that night).

You didn't research this person before you purchased snakes off them?

Re: NEw snake already problem HELP

    sjs,

Bump up the hot spot temp to 94, take him to the vet tomorrow.

They were purchased from us on May 10 2008, they are 2007 snakes and have been problem free.

Even though you didn't purchase them directly from us and they have been out of our care for 46 days, if he does not make it we will send you another 100% het pied male.

I sent you an email with my cell #, call me tomorrow after the vet visit.

    Thanks,

    Rich
