Herpstat all the way. Way better functionality available in them.
I use them on my racks, cages and incubator.

well not really, right now GLK herps has the herpstat II on sale for $199 (kingsnake ad).that's a steal in my opinion.but if you only have a small number of snakes it's a bit of overkill,a sound investment if you plan on getting a bigger collection going.

The low-end herpstat is quite a bit less expensive than a helix, but I recommend the herpstat ND, which is still a little less expensive than the helix.

The Herpstat ND has an alarm that will notify you if temps get outside of the selected range. It saved ten of my snakes from cooking when a probe came loose.

    It beeps and I run.

The herpstat pro has some internet functionality, but I've never used it. It's a four probe unit, to regulate 4 racks, so is probably more than you need right now.

With the Herpstat ND it has the alarms and night drop features used in the Herpstat II and PRO, but it does not have the abilitly to connect to the internet and send instant messages or call your cell phone like the Herpstat II and PRO do. I personally prefer the Herpstat PRO. I have 2 Helix which are not bad Thermostats, but after getting them we went to a Herpstat Pro in our rack system and realized all the additional features it has and now that is all we plan to use. Also as long as your racks are close together you can use a herpstat PRO to power 4 different racks even if they use different types of heating elements as it has 4 seperate channels. Then you figure in the cost we found the Herpstat pro at was $320 or $380 if you want the software connection stuff. Four Helix controllers are going to run over $500. You can do the rest of your math from that. Granted I think as more people realize the added features they can get with Herpstat you may be able to pick up used Helix controllers at a significantly lower price unless Helix picks up their game and comes out with something better! We plan on getting another Herpstat Pro to replace the two Helix units we have on our display enclosure in the future. We will keep the Helix Thermostats around as back ups or for the set up of emergency individual quarantine tanks.

I have just the basic Herpstat model, and one snake. For the regulation of just one tub (or one rack), it's perfect. I'm very pleased with it--and it's not very space-consuming, which is nice. I've heard that Helix is a great brand, too--so I don't think you can go wrong, regardless of what you decide.

I've heard good things about Herpstats but I've personally only used Helix. I use them on my racks and incubator and have never had an issue.

Plus Helix has excellent customer service. I once blew a fuse on one of mine and Helix replaced it for free even though it was my fault.

I also hear that Helix has some really cool new features that are due to hit the market soon.

All that being said Helix has my vote

I have had big problems with Helix. I am not sure if it is just my outlet but it would give me an error message and then turn off. This was after a couple months of me having to set the temps at 110F to get 90F in the tank. Annoying. It "tested" fine with their light bulb test, but somehow couldn't regulate two tubs...it made me VERY angry.:taz:
I got rid of it and bought a herpstat.

Do you want a mercedes or a bmw?

They are both good functioning thermostats and each have their own advantages, disadvantages, and niether have been completely immune to defects.

Both companies offer great customer support as well.

I use both and am happy with the performance of each of them.

I have a Herpstat 2 and the only thing I would improve is the visibility. I can barely see the Display on it. Other than that it has been running almost 2 years for me with no problems!

I've been using Herpstat II's for a quite a while. I am not that far away from sypder robotics, so it's easy for me to pick one up. In several years of using the Herpstat II's, I did have one side fail off, which is rather unusual, but I will be taking it to GLK herp to be looked at this weekend. (No real harm was done..the side that failed happened to be controlling the temps on a gopher snake).

I have both: Helix and Herpstat 2. Brad said it best; Porsche or Lamborghini? Both are great. Frankly, I'd take the Porsche. But for t'stats, either one will do the job. :D

Hey I just had a quick question, do the Herpstat ND or the basic Herpstat allow you to control multiple enclosures at once? I only have one BP right now but I see myself having multiple in the future and I'd like to be able to get something now that will meet my needs for a while. Thanks guys :)

I believe you need Verizon to receive text messages. I haven't tried with e-mail yet

    Yes and No.
You can control multiple racks if they are the SAME rack...same heat source, same size tubs, etc.

However, if you have like an adult rack and a baby rack, then you would want to step up to the Herpstat II because it has two outputs. You would need one probe for each rack, and then the heating element for each rack would plug into each outlet in the Herpstat II.

I have a Herpstat PRO controlling a Juvy rack, an adult rack, and an incubator right now.
