My Balls eyes are blue/gray???

Hey my ball's eyes are or have turned a blue gray foggy instead of the normal black.. Oh fyi.. He is now eating 2 pinky & 1 fuzzy.. Progress I hope... I have added another under ground heater to help keep at 80 in the tank now.. So no dropping down to 75..

His eyes are blue because he's getting ready to shed. Make sure your humidity is good to help him along! :D Glad to hear he's doing good.

Really.. cool.. 1st shed then for me.. Hope I make it through it:w00t: So what is the ideal humid?? Also how long does it take for a shed? Also will he stop eating? do I still pick him up? Do I do all as normal?
Humid is currently at 45 to 50... Should I mist?
Oh and last night was the first night I actually seen him "full" so to speak..

Umm, i'd say about two weeks to shed. He already started before his eyes turned blue. Took about a week after the blue eyes for me. Humidity around 70-80% for shed mode.

I wouldn't hold him, would just annoy him. I didn't feed in shed, just waited till the day he shed to feed him.

Ok I found the "sticky" no pics or they didnt work..
So how do I get the humid up to 70? and when do I do this?

Get the humidity up to 70 now. I do it by using a wet towel.. errr. a damp towel. I get a towel wet with hot water and then ring it out, put it over most of the lid and switch it out every day. Should keep the humidity pretty high for you. You could also build a humid hide.

There should be a sticky or something for it.. just search humid hide.

misting is a decent way to make some humidity in the whole tank/setup, but what you want to do, is to offer a humid hide for him....best thing to do there is to put some damp moss/or even moistened papertowel down under his hide so it stays humid to help him shed his old skin

I thought he was a bit crabby yesterday when I held him..

ok so I have put a damp cloth over the top .. I now am wondering if the mesh screen will begin to rust??? Also it did help but now I am only at 60 humid.

So should I mist my ball with water? when and how much?

hmmmm....i think you mis-understood me....you wanna put the damp papertowel in the tank under his cave/hide....

you can mist your ball python, and even give him a warm bath if you wanted...some pet stores also sell a 'shedding aid' that you can mist on them too....when i shed you can mist them about 2-3 times a day....this isnt as critical as creating a humid area for them to rest in.

Ok I got it. So now his eyes have turned back to normal color. So now my next questions are..

When can I pick him up to spray? When do I feed? We have been on a 4 day cycle of eating.. Do Ijust wait till this is over? Does anyone know if the mesh on top does rust when damp cloths are placed on it? my humid is at 65 currently and I have actually seen him move finally.. Sorry all but this is my first shed and I am excited and nervous. So far I have been very luck with all the typical problems that people have I have had none.. yet...

I have been lucky he eats great likes his large tank and is not stressed. I think it is because I have 3 hides and stuff to climb on and its "busy" so to speak. He likes me so far. he can chill on me but doesnt seem to care for my sone or anyone else. He trys to go back to me every time. I also had the sweet experience of being able to hold him while he drank.. Not sure if this is common but it was sure cool. My Orion is no special type just a normal.. I wouldnt trade him for the world.. He is family..

Plus I am sooo happy to be on this site it is the best thing ever like the Metallica club I belong to..

Dont spray him directly....Mist the sides of the tank, not him directly. Also try not to soak the substrate. A humid hide is a good idea, but some bp's won't bother with it. I offered mine a humid hide for three sheds and kept the overall humidity around 55% and he did not have a very good shed, nor did he use the humid hides.

The mesh on your tank should not rust, unless it is really cheap, but I have never seen that happen. Especially if you take the damp towel off for a few minutes everyday to wash it/replace it with a new one. As soon as you think your bp is going into a shed cycle, you up the humidity to 65-70%.

You can identify a shed cycle by a slight pink belly, dulling in color of the skin, and then the blue eyes. The eyes shoud clear up in a few days, but his body will still look dull. He will shed after that point. I feed my bp right through a shed, but some BP's will not eat because it is difficult for them to see through the dullness of the skin over their eyes.

Soaking or misting your snake before it sheds can actually make it worse. Spraying him directly will freak him out and cause unnecessary stress.. Do not soak him unless he has already shed and it does not come off completely. Those 'shedding aids' at the pet store are useless and a waste of money. All they are is mineral oil, which you do not need if you have the correct humidity.

You can feed him once he has shed if you are going the route of no feed during shed. You can handle him right after his shed, but he may feel a little stressed about the whole process and this being the first time he has gone though it in his new home. So you may want to wait until the day after.

IF he ends up with a partial shed, he will keep trying to get the remainder off. Let him do this for about 24 hours, then go ahead and soak him in warm water for 30 mins, and run him through a damp towel to remove the shed. There is a perfect sticky on this in the husbandry section.

I have seen hime and he has come out of his hide for the first time here in awhile. The eyes are back to "normal" and his face is all peely.. Alone with his body. I did find a Pc of skin. I did notice he is not likeing to get in the "Ball" type form. I can guess its because he is not liking the way his skin feels..
So how do I help him? Or do I just let it take its course? When should he be done? is there a time when I should be concerned?:confused:

It sounds like his shed is coming off in pieces, which can be expected if your humidity drops below 50. Give him a day to try and get most of it off himself, then follow the sticky on fixing a shed

If hes been looking all wrinkly and 'peely' since last night, Id say go ahead with helping him out sometime today. Just warm water and a good ol towel will do the job, you may have to repeat this a few times to be sure all of the shed is off.

And if you can't put the soaking tub back in his enclosure because its to awkward or big, just keep it in a warm room or even half on top of a human heating pad set on low.

I'd watch him closely for the next couple of days, because when mine was trying to get his head shed off, he was rubbing his face raw. I soaked him in a tub with washcloth and I could peel the shed right off. I was very carful with the eyes, but the caps came right off.

Yea, usually they can get quite a bit off themselves, but like I said, go ahead and give him a hand after about 24 hours of him not getting it off. This is the reason you should not have anything sharp or pokey in his enclosure, as he will find it and rub rub rub until his itchy skin is off, so give him some help:)
