I have a burrowing noodle lol
During my checks tonight I lifted the humid hide, his regular hide and added some water thinking, hmmm where is the little guy. then i look down and there was his little head poking out of the bedding at me. he had burrowed under the bedding and was just sitting there, as the saying goes "if it were a snake it wouldve bitten me" not at this house lol.. here the ball pythons strike, in striking position and the little boas hide under bedding watching you lol. Hes so freakin cute!

He came here around 70g and tonight he weighs 123 :D

I think its soooo cute!! It really makes me glad i put bedding in there for him instead of just newspaper :D the weird thing is we dont use belly heat, we use back heat.. so it isnt that hes doing it to get closer to the heat source. hes just stretching out along the bottom of the bin

I think most boas will burrow if given the chance. I use carefresh for Kinky... it's always so much fun when I first put it in there, because she buries her entire fat six foot butt. Or she'll bury just her head and leave her fat butt sticking out, lol.

I only have indented Kraft paper in the cage, but I think I'll run out to get some aspen and some plastic foliage. Should I bake the aspen first to be certain that there are no bugs present? I would love to have a burrowing little noodle and not a scared boa on the top branches of her climbing structure....

I think that's hilarious too Lynn. I've seen the boa's do that. Stuff most of themselves under the bedding and leave their butts hanging out. You have to laugh when you look at a silly snake like that!

Here's a female at about 6.5 feet playing "where's the boa???" I swear the first time she did this I about had a heart attack thinking she'd somehow got out of her enclosure and there she was the entire time, peeking up out of her substrate layer.

    ADORABLE!

Starmom, I've never personally baked my aspen or carefresh... usually, when I replace the bedding, I spray the cage down with PAM and let it dry before placing the snake back in there. Never had a problem here.

Well, my first post and I had the same scare today with my new common Boa "Baby" Its a 24 inch male that I just fed for the first time yesterday. He has been in his new enclosure for a week. He immediatly went into his hide last night and this mornng I went in to check on him and he was not in his Scotch box. In fact I did not see him anywhere. I suddenly had a flash back to college where my Kingsnake got out. Anyway, he did as yours did and burried himself in the substrate.

I love the pic of yours peeking out. Very cool.

    Mine too:)
He is always burrowed under the aspen. Usually under his hide. I will lift it up and he won't be under either of them. Then we end up playing fine the boa nose lol.

I think its adorable too. My ball python will occasionally burrow, usually after I give him a mist and right before he sheds.

Carmen's never burrowed but she loves her hides and hiding in general...even with a foot and a half of butt hanging out...

"You can't see me, I'm hiding!"

Sure, honey. No one is gonna notice your big fat high-contrast red and tan butt out there...:8:

Thanks! I have enjoyed this site for sure. Been reading for a while. I have kept snakes but its been a while. In college I kept a lot of wild caught native species, mostly for my Herpatology collections but kept a kingsnake as a pet for several years until I went off to medical school. Thats been just a few years ago, 10 cough cough and now that I have two girls, 7 and 5, I thought its time to start introducing them to taking care of animals large and small. Sorry for the run on...

Anyway, I will post some pics of my little male in about a week. I am letting him settle in before I really get to messing with him too much. I will start my own thread to go on so I don't hijack this thread too much.
