    Whats the best Pastel line?
Just wanted to get an idea of what people thought of each line. Feel free to explain what you like about your favorite and the typical differences between the lines. Thanks!

I have blondes, lemons and Graziani lines with the lemon and blonde being different but nicer of the three, but I have a female pastel that is not a specific line that is just smokin! it goes to show you that you should pick the animal not the name or line. She is older, bigger and better looking!

Here she is making bumbles for me. You cant see her head but it is YELLOW!

To me it’s not about the line but about the individual itself, I have seen good looking and ugly in each lines.

I think it's a matter of personal tastes. I like bright and yellow, so I chose a lemon pastel to be my first pastel. He's holding his yellow quite well at 1100 grams:

I've seen good and bad examples of most lines. The nicest pastel I've seen was an adult Bell. I have a Graziani and Bell, and a VPI on the way and my Bell is holding his color nicely. This is an older pic of my bell.

I like the lemons, I love the yellow look. And even though this isnt really considered a pastel Ive seen some Enchis that I really like.
Not to hijack the thread but are enchis not considered pastels because they arent compatible with the others or is it another reason?

Enchis have something different going on than pastels. The color mutation looks similar, but they're as different as a pinstripe and a spider.

I agree. Here's a pic of a blond female we produced a year ago. This is a pic of her at about 700 grams - she is still this brite.

I do think that the pastel lines have been bred together so much over the years that it is very hard to tell what "mix" you have. Go for the pastel that catches you eye, the less orange the better (it tends to brown out more I think).

I had to select other! A lot of it depends on what you are going for! If it is just a pastel I like them all for their uniqueness. If I am making a bumble bee I would use a Lemon, but then again I like cinna bees! Then also Pewter is pretty cool, but I guess is more of a super pastel. I also like Mojave combo's with Graziani line pastels. I think the blond pastel would look really cool mixed with axanthic. I could go on and on here with all different things! :D

bell line for me if I'm forced to pick one. But I personally think you should buy for the snake itself, the line's not nearly as important.

I really like Bell lines if I can find them and I like Ruppel lines. Has anyone else seen the amazing super pastel that Casey Lazik has? It's a Ruppel pastel crossed on another line, I'd love to make one of those. http://reptilia.com/index.php?page=s...mart&Itemid=73

Re: Whats the best Pastel line?
I like different things about different line depending on what project I am going to be plugging them in to. If its Bees then Lemons, if its supers then Greg's line, if I'm mixing it with a vanilla then the Blondes. Each line offers different options an looks. So like was said before shop the animal not the line.

I have Bell, Graziani and Lemon. I like them all differently.

Breed out for quality, and it really won't matter, I don't think.

Re: Whats the best Pastel line?
I agree that it is only a matter of taste. As Greg Graziani bred his pastels for dorsel blushing. Kevin (NERD) bred his for this bright yellow, and so on. I like the heavy blushing in the graziani pastels, but I also like the bright yellow that other world renowned breeders put out... much like Kevins lemon pastel.

I would suggest adding one of each to your collection if you plan to breed because people enjoy different things about pastels. And it's all about variation.

Wheres the "they're all the same" option? IMO a pastel is a pastel there are nice ones and not so nice ones from every line. Selective breeding may have made very subtle differences between the lines but if your not buying from the originator of the line I don't see the point in worrying about it. Just buy one that you like.

What about if the breeder has the documentation to trace it back to the origional line?

IMO all pastels are the same. The slight differences are due to selective breeding by the originator of the line. I think once the original breeder is no longer the one breeding them and controling what females they are bred to they should just be called pastels. I know my opinion is in the minority on this one, but I just don't see the point in all of these pastel "lines".

Re: Whats the best Pastel line?
Personally I don't think the line matters at all. There are good and bad examples of all of them. Choose the individual, and try to see what the parents look like too. The looks of the normal parent is just as important as the looks of the pastel parent.

I agree! if you want a nice pastel, you want both parents to look good as they age, not just the pastel parent. I think lines are pretty much useless as a lot of them look the same to me. I have a Lemon female who is one generation removed from NERD, her dad was produced by them. I think she is a looker and is holding her color well. I call her a pastel because that is what she is. If she were bought directly from NERD I *might* call her a lemon pastel...

I have to go with Bell line since thats what my male is. But like alot of others posted. Shop around and pick an animal that you like. Again like said all lines have pretty ones and not so pretty ones. It all depends on what your looking for.
