I love Nic Boas. I have a female that is 2 years old and just over 29 inches. She will breed next season around 36 inches. And she is calm for a NIC.

I also like Hogg Islands. Very nice snakes.

    Centrals Are unerated also.

But if you want to get out of the BCIs you could go to a Brazilian rainbow. One of my favorites. Rosey boas are fun also.

Yeah, I haven't kept any Rosy Boas but I've heard they're pretty nice snakes, and they stay small.. they're pretty too!

Brazilians wont put on the mass like a BCI, but they do get long. Brazilians aren't for beginners either as they are not forgiving of husbandry mistakes.

My first boa was a Hog Island, shes struck at me before, but other than that shes been really easy for me to take care of (she never refuses meals, seems to be okay with handling every couple of days).. I've heard of some being very nippy though, so I would keep that in mind.. I believe they get around 6 feet fully grown, maybe a little more/less.. depending on the sex of the snake and how much its fed.

heres a picture of my Hog

Or you could go with a normal Columbian BCI... will most likely stay below 7 ft. (especially if you get a male), have amazing tmperaments, come in all sorts of colors...

    That's my recommendation :D

Here's a couple nice shots to show you the comparison between a boa and a BP... the boa is an adult female and the BP is an adult female:

I wouldn't recommend rainbow boas.. they're finnicky about humidity and temps. Central American boas and Nicaraguans tend to be nippier than Colombian BCI.

Sand and Rosy boas are really nice.. here's my 2 kenyan sand boas:

    and my roughscaled sand boa:

Dumerils boas are great.. easy to keep (just make sure you get a well started baby) and they average a heavy-bodied 4-6'

As mentioned above, Hog island boas are very nice. They stay a bit smaller than Colombian BCI, but my female is still a good 6' or so. She's pretty well tempered.. my juvie male Hog island is very docile. This is the female:

Re: Whats a good boa for a nooby
Rosy boas and Sand boas make great boas for a beginner. They don't even reach 5 feet in length and they are easily housed and cared for.

Re: Whats a good boa for a nooby
I have 3 BCIs. They range between 1 - 2 1/2 years old. They are all very docile. Just watch out during feeding. They have a very good feeding response. If you are into morphs, I would suggest a salmon or albino. I have both of them, and love them both. Males stay smaller than females. Anyway, hope this helps...

Normal BCI would be my recommendation also!
Great temperment ,Great eaters , But realize they can get large.
