I don't really have any advice and my post is probably pointless :P but I started with mine in a tub. I found that keeping humidity DOWN was a problem. After I was able to get it up, I couldn't keep it below 80% for nothin. I had her in a tub for a week and transfered her to a 55 gallon tank.
I also was completely freaked out about it being a firehazard. I didn't have anything for the tub to be on so it was on the floor and the UTH catching fire was always lingering in my mind. That alone was worth the switch. I live right by the ocean though so the humidity is never below 40% in my house let alone the tanks.

Try the search function both in this section and the Housing section. There are lots of great tips!

I have all my kids in tubs, and love it.

I dont think you can search for tub because of the 4 letter limit. I tried and it popped up everything pretty much lol. I deffinately wouldnt keep it on a rug or anything, why dont you put it where the terrarium is? Make sure you use a thermostat if using a uth or heat tape on a tub, and it is a pain at first getting the right amount of holes so as to not let too much heat out but not let too much humidity build up. Will take you probably over a week of trial and error. Good luck I just got my tub's humidity right and my boy is moving in after his shed is done in a few days.

You can search "tubs" or even "baby tub" or "juvenile tub". But I'm glad you brought it up, I'll see if we can make a sticky about tub set-ups soon.

I just set up my baby pewters tub and took some good pics... 60qt tub, 2 zilla hides, water bowl and this fish tank decoration thingy for her to climb on. I will post them as soon as my gf comes home with her camera. I think youll enjoy the switch to a tub. Very easy to maintain temps/humidity.

Josh uses larger tubs with great success. Most keepers prefer a much smaller tub for babies and juvies. You'll have to read your snake to see if it's stressed by such a large enclosure and be open to going smaller for him if you choose to start as large as Josh.

I start babies in 15 quart tubs, Juvies in 20 quart and adults in 41 quart.

Our tubs are really not that much different in size Robin... The only real difference is the height. I like to provide my snakes with something to climb on so my tubs need to be taller... When you add the height you add many more quarts. The measurements of the 60qt i just bought is 22.8x16.7x13.6... Again mine need to be just a tad bit longer bc the climbing thing I add takes up more space. Once you put in 2 hides(zilla small baby hides), a decent sized water bowl(all mine are the same kind from target pet department), and the climbing thing (some fish decoration from pet co that is perfect for snakes) theres really not much room to stress the snake out. The pictures I took show every step I took to putting the tub together and I think are sticky worth... I guarantee my set ups will never "stress" a snake out due to the size being too big... My yearlings get 96qt tubs only bc the hides need to be bigger, take up more space, and dont fit in the 60qt... well I cant say they wont fit bc they will it just eliminates almost all the floor space. 96qt just gives you the floow space back.

Josh, it's great that a larger enclosure works well for you, I don't believe that I criticized yours? I said that it works for you. For others, it won't. Each keeper needs to be tuned into their animals to determine whether all that open vertical space will stress their snake or not.

Awesome idea! Seems to be a fairly popular post.

What I'm saying is it will work for others... pretty darn close to 100% of the time...I'm 11/11 and have had no problems... What it comes down to is do you want your snake to have room to climb? You choose not to provide them with that so theres no need for the extra space and a 60qt doesnt make sense. I think the majority of snakes should have something to climb on bc these animals live in the wild and there they have the option to climb. To provide them with that, I and other owners like me need to use a taller tub. A smaller tub also allows an owner to have multiple snakes in small space. When my snakes are full grown adults they will ALL live in 4x2x1.5 custom built enclosures which dwarf a 41qt which you use for your adults. Many of the top breeders and probably a large portion of the people on this forum look at me and say "thats way too big" but I look back and say "thats way too small." Until I see some evidence that the space "stresses" them out I cant help but think its just a fallacy.

before i switched to tubs, I had an aquarium style with a small fake porcelain tree in it. My normal used it all the time. He would sometimes sit up there for hours.

I have both in tubs now and there really isn't any climbing space available. They were both eating and shedding normally and on schedule before and still are; so apparently, it seems either way hasn't affected their behavior much.

There is an off chance I have two really awesome snakes though :D

    I may be partial

Any particular reason you choose not to give him the tree thing in the tub?

Because BP are not arboreal snakes they are ground dwellers, yes they can climb but they can also fall very easily as they are pretty clumsy.

Ground dwellers snakes have different requirements than arboreal snakes.

Would I house a Carpet python in a tub that is 6 inches high? NO

Would I house a BP in a tub that is 15 inches high? NO

If it work for you great, however the height is not needed, and I can tell you that the majority of people housing their BP in plastic tubs use tubs that are no higher than 6/7 inches, if you don't believe me, make a new thread with a poll and you will see for yourself.

Just because the majority of the people do it doesnt mean its right deb. The majority of people do it bc they come on here looking for advice and get told "12 qt tub for baby." Im just curious what about your background makes you qualified to say its not needed? Is exercise not needed for all animals to remain healthy? I was under the impression that the more exercise an animal gets the healthier it will be. Is that not correct? Deb you can run right? What happens when you run and trip on a pot hole or rock? You fall... does that mean you dont run? To say the shouldnt be offered something to climb on bc "they're clumsy" is silly. Aboreal means they spend the MAJORITY of their time in trees... Does that mean they dont come down from time to time? Abosultely not... Just like a ground dweller will climb from time to time... Where do my snakes spend the majority of their time? In their hides. Just because thats where they are the majority of the time doesnt mean when they arnt in there they wont use the extra space.

Well mainly because it wouldn't fit in the new tub.

I don't think she really misses it but I know she doesn't 'need' it. She hasn't missed a feeding yet and is currently in her second shed since I've had her.

She seems happy with two hides, a water dish, and a small container for soggy paper towels :)

I guess the way I look at it is do I 'need' a 42'' plasma? Do I 'need' another snake? Does my snake 'need' something to climb on... the answer to all of those is no... But does someone or something benefit from a plasma? 11th snake? tree to climb on? yer darn right someone/thing benefits.

let me get this analogy correct, 42" plasma = climbing device for ball python?

Heck, I'm going with the plasma :P

I'm with Josh on this one. We had to downgrade our BP from a 55G tank to a 90 Qt tub because we are moving. It was the largest tub I coulbd find but still seems so small. Our BP is 20" long but we wanted him to have the space to climb (which he does often).
