That first pic makes me think of a snake muzzle. My poor mind has weird random thoughts that I sometimes HAVE to share. :)

That's a chocolate hypO? I've never heard of one before. Who first proved them out?

    Same question as above....:)

Not proven out, that I know of--still considered unproven. I have her son, though, he's the spider. I'm curious to see what comes out there, for sure.
    She looks different.
There is a mention of these guys on Ralph Davis' site. He wasn't impressed by them until he got some called chocolate hypos at first that led to the burdundy line. I think they are being largely ignored, surprisingly enough.

So, you've just named her a chocolate hypo before proving her out then? What indicators make you think she's a hypo? I'm asking, because I have a male similar to her, only much more "hypo-ish" looking.

I edited my post to explain a bit more, there.
    I didn't name her a chocolate hypo--I bought her as one. :)
She has no real black on her, it's all shades of brown. The color is somewhat muted. I fully understand why these animals were given this name. Whether or not it is a form of hypomelanism, I am not sure. I think crossing her with the spider might just reveal something, though--hoping it will clarify things.

Problem is; even if she's hypo, you'd need a het hypo to breed to her, wouldn't you?

Yes, I have her son, as I said.

The spider is her "het" son.

Unless the spider has a matching/compatible het status it won't reveal anything. Except the possibility of more spiders!

If it's unproven it shouldn't of been sold to you as "This or that" until proven.

She's a chocolate hypo. IF this is a recessive genetic trait, then her son IS (not may be) het for chocolate hypo. Breeding him back to her should produce at least some chocolate hypos, and possibly some chocolate hypo spiders.
If it doesn't produce any snakes at all that look like her after 2 years, then I will conclude that chocolate hypo is probably not a recessive trait, and assume that she's just an interestingly-colored normal.
As I did not pay more for her than I would have for an adult normal, this does not distress me in the least.
I'll get some spiders from her either way.
Best-case scenario, chocolate hypo is in fact a recessive trait, and I will produce quite possibly the first chocolate hypo spiders. They may look ugly, or they may be gorgeous. We'll just have to see.
In the meantime, for this season, I'll be pairing her with my pastel male. So, I'll have some pastels that will carry the hypothetical recessive too, next year. I'll be saving one of those males just in case she proves out with the spider, so I can see what pastel does to the mix. :)
I should take some pictures of her next to my big normal female, so the differences show up better.

Can you provide that link? I've been looking on Ralph's site and can't find it. Even under the burgundy's on his matrix.

So, does she shed clear for you? This is my boy that's got an even more "hypo-ish" look to him (has the same "smudges" as your girl), but he does NOT shed clear.

    Here's where they are mentioned:
    http://www.ralphdavisreptiles.com/co...all_python.asp

Her sheds are muted, but not completely clear. So, this is either not hypomelanism precisely, or that's not a marker for this particular hypo line. (Or, it's not genetic--that remains to be seen).
As is mentioned in the article, she is a two-toned brown, and lacks black.
