50th birthday vacation
Well for my 50th birthday celebrations , I've come to the lovely Costa Rica.
After a gruiling 11.5hr flight and 2hrs thru passport control[emoji24][emoji24]my wife and I arrived at Guinacaste Costa rica.
There is a minus 7hr time difference between UK and Costa rica.
After supper a quick drink and once round the resort to get our bearings we went to bed kinda early to try get our body clocks used to the time difference. we really didn't take much rocking to nod off[emoji1787][emoji1787].
At 5.30am we was woken up by the strangest of sounds, we was on 4th floor level with the jungle canopy, amazing view and there in front of our balcony was a group of around 7 howler monkeys. Mind blowing.

I've got you by 5 years sir and I just retired and I feel fantastic.
Looks like I should consider a little trip with my wife after seeing your pictures.
It is always good to see your posts Richard, I hope you enjoy your 50's. They are truly great years.

No, its very doable and we have a lot of friends that go regularly.
We typically hit the Virgin Islands, Cayman or Cozumel so we just haven't made our way there.
I think it will be on the radar soon.

This morning on the way back from our early morning monkey watch walk, I had been seeing this rather ugly green canopy, half decent size and I always thought it kinda spoiled the natural beauty of the beach, anyway we went and had a look only to find it was hiding olive ridley turtle nests,[emoji7][emoji7][emoji7][emoji7] some had just finished hatching and the gent who was guarding it let us have a look, they will be released later, absolutely beautiful little things.I hope to get some pics [emoji1696][emoji1696][emoji7]
Conservation work like this is so important

That "ugly green canopy" turned out to be something quite special! What an awesome thing to witness while there- & I'm just happy to know there are some wonderful wildlife caretakers out there- despite the abuse they often get from ignorant people. TKS for sharing!

Yes the canopy was a godsend really with the amount of herons, vultures, frigate birds and iguanas about to protect the eggs and hatchling at least.
It actually made me quite emotional seeing them being released earlier,like you say there are decent people in this world protecting these wonderful creatures,
There was about 40 released

Howler monkeys can be deafening, for sure. I suppose they make the same claims about us, though...:D Last I checked, none of them fly jets, drive muscle cars & lawn tractors, shoot guns & fireworks, or crank up their loudspeakers?

Theres worse things to be woken up by at 5.30 thats for sure, they was outside our balcony most mornings, there was some sort of fruit ripening on the tree, there was also a family group down On the beach . All had babies too
seeing animals in the wild where should be such an amazing experience

With tempting fruit trees nearby, I can imagine how little "peace" you got. :D But not bad for a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
The only howlers I've met were in the National Zoo (D.C.) years ago, when I volunteered there (in the "monkey house) & brought them, their Colobus neighbors & many others their "breakfast". :chew:
