Please help! My snake soak in water bowl again...mites come back?
:OHi guys! I got my Suriname boa this March around 6 month ago. After I got him around a week I found him soak in water and found a mite. Then I treat him and his enclosure with PAM and reptile spray, also changed his bedding from forest floor to paper towel. The mites gone soon and I never seen any or he soak in water for months. Last week I changed his bedding to repti chips and yesterday evening I saw him soak in water bowl! I moved him out and didn't see any mites inside the bowl. Today morning he soaked himself in the bowl again. I checked but I think the dark dots in the water are more like just some tiny parts the coconut bedding. I also spray reptile spray on a paper towel and wiped his body but didn't find mites.I wonder is it possible that mites may come back after this long time? I never been to reptile show or bring any new snake back during this period. Thank you so much! I'm so stressful now.:tears:

Thank you so much for your reply! I got that in late March, but my other two ball pythons always use it until now and never have mites signs. My Suriname boa used paper towel until last week, so I feel confused.:(

Thank you so much! Today when I got back he's not in the water, but after a few hours, I found him soak his belly in the water:( I'll keep watching him.

Thank you so much! His eyes are still clear and he didn't soak when he was shedding before... I think I'm too stressful and sensitive now, I keep checking if he's in the water bowl every a few minutes.:tears:

What is your humidity and temps in the cage i had a period where my snake soaked on and off for days at a time and it turned out to be a touch to hot. Now he just soaks when he goes to the bathroom he :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:s in the water. He likes to be in the water I’ve had him checked by the vet no mites so I’m thinking. This may be the problem. Trust me I know what your going through I had this exact same question about 2 weeks ago hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your reply! The humidity is so high and I actually plan to drill more holes in the tub and the temperature is 80F low and around 87F high. He didin't soak this morning but I checked another ball python he got dark spots at his chin and back, I rub it with reptile spray on my hand and paper towel and they don't move or fall, like they're two-dimensional not three dimensional. He never soak I hope I'm too sensitive:please: And may I know that how does the vet check the mites? Did the use some special tech or just watch it carefully?

They check it same way we do. But they know exactly what they are looking for. So when I vet says no mites or problems I take thier word for it

Are these your normal temps and levels or have things gone up?
I personally would drop that low temp to 76-77... My Caye Caulker boa likes to thermo regulate, my dumerils boa 90% of the time prefers the cool side and he likes it cool. I have a feeling as the other poster said that the sanke is trying to cool itself because it is just too hot. If you have a hot spot leave that in the upper 80's the rest of the tank can be kept cooler, if the snake wants the heat it will find it trust me, but you aren't giving it much of a choice right now. Try to lower it and see what happens.

Not sure what constitutes normal and odd snake behavior but, your welcome lol. I find most snake activity to be odd at times.
