    3 Days of Turkey Bacon
ok there have been 3 days of trainings/workshops or whatever in my office since Tuesday. i'm not involved or apart of them. these trainings have had breakfast and lunch provided each day, for like 25 peeps. one of the breakfast items everyday has been Turkey Bacon. i ate some on the first day and didn't like it very much. but i guess they needed a non-pork breakfast protein option. so here's 3 days of leftover turkey bacon.

    Day1 - well done!

Day 2 - does this batch look better?
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/coXIpOq.jpg

Day 3 - no leftover turkey bacon!

Man this is a issue with me. Bacon come from pigs. Period. Doesn't matter if it tastes good or not it's still not bacon if it didn't come from a pig. I have a vegan lady that works for me, nothing wrong with being vegan, but...

vegan cheese, vegan milk, vegan ice cream etc

call the stuff what it is, flavored soy product.

Oh and back on topic.. turkey formulated to look remotely like bacon tastes like crap after a couple pieces.

I love & have eaten Morningstar Farms "veggie bacon" breakfast strips for many years. I grew up eating the real thing, but I don't miss the mess it makes
to cook & dispose of all the fat, & I don't miss the health drawbacks (too much saturated fat & chemicals in the bacon). I can't live without BLT's, bacon &
egg sandwiches & grilled cheese w/ bacon, and veggie bacon cooks FAST & without any mess: I bake on metal sheet in my toaster oven 350* but it burns
FAST so don't turn your back on it...it turns 'golden' in a few minutes, handy if you're working or just busy (& doesn't need flipping either) & it's crispy with
good bacon flavor, lower calories too (not that I care but for those who do). BTW, I'm not a vegetarian, this is really just my favorite bacon. (and if your
dog loves a bacon treat, which mine do, this is better than the fake treats they sell "for dogs" too) You can also make it ahead of time & it will stay crispy
for a sandwich later, like to take & make a fresh BLT for lunch.

I'm not a fan of "real" bacon. I eat turkey bacon.

It's free food. Eat it and don't complain.

That said, the bacon I eat is not purchased at the grocery store. I get half a hog for the freezer periodically and that includes one ham and bacon cured at the butcher and cut to my specifications (thick!).

As a Canadian, I have no idea what Canadian bacon is supposed to be, I just love regular bacon, also we have maple bacon here too.

    ^^^ YUP ^^^

My brother stopped eating pork for a few years, so he cooked up some of this turkey imposter product once while I was at his house. It wasn't gross but it was NOT bacon.

Am I seriously supposed to choose between bacon, pancetta and pork belly?!?!?!?!? Impossible!!

I'll eat turkey bacon but only if I cook it in a cast iron skilled that is filled with real bacon grease.

Ok, I know we're not even 24 into this thread being created by our good friend, Ax. But serioisly??? ZERO votes for pancetta and pork belly?? I cook with pancetta regularly and use pork belly at least a dozen times each year.

    Y'all don't know what you're missing!

And P.S. I thought Macon was just a town/county in Georgia...

My bacon has to be smoked,
I don't think I could live without belly pork either, tastes amazing on the BBQ marinated in bbq sauce or Jack Daniels sauce, delicious

I think you call it back bacon up there? It's like a little flat piece of ham:

Imagine my surprise when I was in France and ordered a bacon and egg breakfast, this was what I received as bacon. Such a disappointment

That looks like preformed ham to me
Most bacon in the U.K. is like this you can get streaky back .I think this is similar to what you have in the USA
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...58f941ae25.png obviously raw, mostly meat not much fat
Where streaky bacon is more fatty
    https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...eb1eb0b84a.png
    Both delicious tho

My wife works for Boar's Head, we use pancetta, prosciutto, soppressata, and various others. They're all good.

Thick sliced, apple wood smoked, bacon, cooked just short of crispy so it has a texture more consistent to chewy jerky. Unbeatable.

My second favorite I haven't has since I was a kid. I don't even know if anyone still makes it. It was called Peameal Bacon. Basically it is a pork tenderloin that's cured somehow but not smoked like bacon. Then it is rolled in cornmeal so it looks like a cornmeal cake roll. You cut slices off and fry it in real butter. Delicious!

In an effort to 'redeem' myself here, I DO love ham sandwiches or grilled ham & cheese, now that I found Beeler's uncured ham in my local HFS.
It's the best ham I've ever eaten & without the chemicals I avoid...see? I'm not TOTALLY nuts, lol. :P

Whats the general consensus on smoky bacon , peeps !!?

I kinda like it in smaller amounts , occasionally. The other day we mixed bacon and smoky bacon in one meal and it worked rather nicely .. it's the future !!

    PS

Is this the unofficial Bacon thread !?

May I now introduce my latest creation ..

Two slices of buttered bread , add slices of SPAM ... then spread a little apple sauce over the spam then drizzle some garden peas over the apple sauce ( the sauce keeps them in place , obviously) ..second slice of bread on top .
    Viola - Spam Butty .

I got my inspiration from eating gammon , chips and peas a while back ..

    I thank you ..
