Glad I don't have a large collection and that I just got these snakes. Shame on the previous owners for failing to inform me. I just sent a text to them about it, and to let them know to check the rest of their collection. Time for some baths and permethrin. I definitely didn't miss this part of getting new snakes the last 8 years.

My condolences. If they cared about their snakes, they'd have known. You have to assume they do NOT care, which means they dumped on you (& on their snakes).
NOT cool...I'll be surprised if they respond to your text.

Sorry to hear about this dilemma, hope you can kick these mites butts quickly so you can just enjoy your new noodles.

After baths and reptile spray treatment, looks like only the kingpin had them. Treated everyone though and sprayed all spare tubs.

She had 3 on her neck I couldn't get to, but hopefully in a few days when I retreat they will have died, I'll keep treating until they're gone.

I only ever had one other mite issue, and it was quick and painless, hopefully this follows suit.

It shouldnt be too bad, i hope, since you caught it early. Is there any way to seperate the poor thing from the others in case it is the only unhealthy one?

Man, I would have blasted the breeder who sent me a mite infested snake. There is no acceptable reason for it. Especially since i have 9 snakes and little ones too like Pat which i would be worried about using PAM on such a little baby. The biggest issue is mites can pass on IBD which is the biggest worry to me.

No permethrin, my local vets won't give any to me without a visit, so I ordered it online, but the reptile spray did a good job and so did the dawn bath.

Only a couple drops of dawn and warm water do a good job. Wipe down with wet paper towel, then after the bath wipe down with the reptile spray before putting back into a clean treated tub.

Sad thing is they weren't sent, I met them a couple hours away. Checked out the first 2 snakes and they both looked good, and got in a hurry to make my ferry to get back home and didn't check over the kingpin very thoroughly.

Uhh you live kind of by me...well up north of me. You dont need a vet to get Permethrin. Hewitt Reptile stocks Provent A Mite. Can also order it from Bean Farm or pretty much any reptile supply place. Even Nix for lice will work as it has permethrin in it. Just not sure how long the residual effects last. PAM is good on a surface for 1-2 months or so Bob told me at Pro Products.

Not sure if you are confusing Permethrin with Ivermectin. Vets can give Ivermectin shots to reptiles which will kill mites that try and feed on them thus breaking the cycle but I have read about some smaller reptiles having adverse effects to it. My vet said she could give Luna shots when Luna got mites. I skipped it and just did PAM for 3 months and it was gone.

Reptile spray works wonders as long as it’s making contact directly with the mite . Sounds like you have it under control. Not long ago I picked up a snake at Hamburg PA show which is notorious for mites . Luckily I quarantined .

I treat every new addition as though it has mites and all the tubs get sprayed every cleaning . Better safe than sorry .

And in my opinion if you keep snakes long enough sooner or later your likely to have an encounter with mites .

The visit is their way of ensuring I am using the stuff for legit reasons I guess, but if things persist I may look into other methods, but for now reptile spray did a great job with her issue. Thanks for the tips on local places. I dont go to seattle often, I am originally from portland, so that is what I know best.

I would personally NOT be comfortable with the risks using Ivermectin on snakes either, from what I've read.

Well Hewitt Reptile is up closer to you. They are in Everett. If the reptile spray is working, great. just be sure to treat for like 3 months to be safe. Even if you dont see mites, eggs can take a month or so to hatch. So a lot of people who say 'i keep getting mites', really arent getting new mites, They just havent broken the cycle of the original mites so while they think they killed them, the eggs hatch and bam, you got mites again lol. And little tiny ones are almost transparent so you really wont notice them until they start to feed and fill with blood. By then you can pretty much figure you got a bunch.

This is correct. A mite egg can take up to 30 days to hatch and a female that has had a blood meal can survive for a long time before starving. So, you really need to continue treating for several weeks after you stop seeing mites.
