Meet Loki

Loki is our new cinnamon pied male. His only color so far is one tiny speck. He has one red pupil and one black pupil but I can’t get it to show up in photos. He’s a cute little guy! I suspect he will grow a few more spots of color as he ages.

The sire is a mystery pied who is either cinnamon pied, or black pastel pied. “Black Cinnamon Pied” is what the breeder is calling him because the pairing which produced the sire included cinnamon and black pastel. However, the sire does have head coloration, as does a sibling to Loki. Both heads look 100% Cinnamon to me, so I have no doubt that is what he is. His mother was a het pied. He will be a great addition to our dark projects with cinnamon, black pastel, GHI, and mahogany.

how much pattern does the sire have if there was no head coloration? were there saddles or other pattern? i was hoping that this was actually a "White" Panda.

It can’t be a panda since the Dam was just a normal het pied. He will help me produce cinnamon pandas tho.

ah ok. i see now. i read your post wrong. i thought u wrote he had no head coloration.

Edit: how can u tell it's Cinny from the head? there's so much variation in color and patterns in Cinny and Black Pastel Pieds that it's hard to tell for me. i've seen dark ones and lighter brown ones, some with eye stripes and some without. IMO the best way to tell if u gotta Cinny or Black Pastel there is to produce a single gene animal from the sire or from his offsprings. it would be easier to ID the difference between a visual single gene Black Pastel and Cinny.

of course it's not a Panda now that i know the pairing. but upon first glance, i thought it may have been a Panda. i have 2 Ian G. line Black Pastel combo's that are het Pied and have a Panda sibiling. the breeder's Panda looked just like your guy, completely white except she has one complete black circle on her lower third.

Because the sires head looks much more cinnamon than black pastel to me. I’ve worked with both for 10 years now. I guess there is a slight possibility that the sire is not a cinny pied due to the pairing that produced him including both genes (the sire), but I’ve never seen a black pastel with a head like that. Black pastel pieds that have head coloration look quite a bit different.
