Enclosure height?

Is 25cm an ok hight for an enclosure housing an adult BP?

I totally disagree. I had my adult male in a 50cm high enclosure and was small for him. I moved him recently to his new 100cm high enclosure and he is climbing and using all the space. I would say for an adult 50cm height is the minimum if you want to keep it in a proper way.

Yes you can go higher but Deborah is not wrong. I bet the OP is using a tub setup which is a common method with keepers and they are usually fairly shallow.

A 100 cm cage for a BP cage is a waste in my opinion. My ETB and GTP don't even have cages that tall.

I did not recommend 100 cm high cage for everybody. I did it because i had the space for it, and its not a waste. I just shared my experience. If you are keeping the snake in tubes that is another issue. I find that less than 50 cm enclosure height "tank not tube" for an adult is small, specially if the floor space of the enclosure was not sufficient

I know you didn't recommend a 100. You did however say 50cm should be the minimum height and I think that's just ridiculous. No matter if it is a tank or tub a BP doesn't need 50cm. Yes, the floor space should be sufficient but that was not the question.

My ETB is in a 36x24x24(inches) cage and there is no way my BP would ever need such a cage. Yes, you can certainly provide it but it is not needed or in any way necessary.

Let me tell you what i meant exactly with 50cm minimum height for an adult according to the experience that i had. My adult 4 feet male was housed in a cage that is in inches: 40 long, 20 deep, 20 high. 20 inches=50cm. This is the absolut minimum tank size for an animal that size if you want to keep it in a proper way. Now if you want to reduce the height you need to compensate that in adding more floor space.

You shouldn't try to set a standard off of your experience with one snake. I saw your thread and even added a picture to it and this conversation is just a spin off of it.

Your idea of "proper" is probably not far from mine. There are plenty of things I have seen here I didn't like but that didn't mean the person was wrong or was improper. We just differed in methods.

Glad you disagree and you can tell me how to properly keep ball pythons, after all I have only kept 50 to 75 adults and hundreds of babies in the past decade.

BTW I also keep them without a hot spot 8 months of the year [emoji79], probably not the proper way either????

There's more then one way to skin a cat, and yes the height the OP wants to use is fine and his snake will be kept properly doing so.

With ONE newly acquired BP I would not make such broad statement as "my way is the way to keep them properly"

Just adding in, there are many ways to keep. Some we each prefer more than others, but there is nothing about ball pythons that makes 50cm "proper" or "minimum". What about you give them an entire room? A whole acre? Grasslands and termite mounds and forests?

If you have kept so many snakes, no wonder that you can,t give them a lot of space. Because the space that you have will be divided on many snakes. For a person like me who owns only 4 snakes, one of them is a ball python, means that i can provide more space for my snakes. I just shared my experience with you.

I have 2 snake rooms one is only 1/3 full and the other 1/2 full so room nor money is an issue so I don't see what it has to do with anything [emoji19] , I keep my animals based on what works for them and myself and encourage others to do the same.

Again your way is not THE way neither is mine, there are many and again YOUR minimums are not what makes a BP being kept properly and 25 cm height makes it not being kept properly.

I think the problem here is "sharing experience" vs. essentially saying everybody here is caring for their snakes improperly except for you. lol.

I didn.t say that. You are putting words in my mouth. I said what i thought was proper and did not accuse anyone of treating their snakes improperly. I did not force my opinion on others. I just spoke my mind. If you think my advice is wrong, very much fine with me. I just told you what i have experienced with my snake, nothing more.

Ok, so OP....
Yes, that is sufficient space to house your BP comfortably.
Also, yes, your BP would probably use more space if more space was provided.

This is where it comes down to what works best for you AND the animal. As you can see throughout this thread, there are differing opinions and no clear "RIGHT" way of doing things.

So, my two cents is this:
Will the animal have room to move around and find the temperature gradient needed?
Will the animal feel secure?
Is the enclosure escape proof?
As long as you can maintain proper husbandry and the animal is living a safe, healthy life, I say use that enclosure if it's what works best for you while still providing the proper husbandry for your snake.

You accused everyone with less than a 50cm tall cage of being wrong.

You may not have meant to but that is the way you came across. The above highlight does not read as an opinion. You state it as fact from your "experience" with one snake.
