Got a new noodle joining the household...
So I may or may not have won a Bob Clark auction just now... SD ultra ivory het anery male will be coming home soon! Have the same excited knots in my stomach as when I got Phyllis. Can't wait to meet him!
    https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...50b06b88d7.jpg
I'll keep y'all posted and start a thread for him soon as well.

Thanks y'all! It was from the Bob Clark Reptiles page. Couldn't resist the chance to get a $1500 snake for about 1/3 the price. Definitely will be flooding a thread with pics when the new dude gets here. Now for a name... My girlfriend has suggested Gerald or Gordon so far.

Yeah its cropped. The website was listed in the corner and I was unsure if that would be a violation of the TOS

    Outstanding name choices.

Gerald is a winner and certainly Gordon, which will be shortened to Gordo after you nick name him, is a close second.

I looked at your profile today although it was a quick glance. What other snakes do you have there JM?

Haha we'll have to see what name he looks like when he gets here, though Gerald sounded great as soon as my girlfriend said it. Currently leaning toward Gerald.
Current snakes are Geoffrey male pastel ball python, Phyllis female kalatoa SD retic, and (insert name here, possibly Gerald) male 50% SD ultra ivory het anery retic.
Hatch date on the newcomer is 3/15/16, about 30" at the moment and eating rat pups every 7-10 days. Dad is 6' mom 11', I expect between 6-9' adult length and Bob said he thinks that sounds about right.

You need to name him "I got him before John" since if I saw that for cheap, I would have hopped on it lol.

And yeah, good luck with that feeding. Since you snagged it before I saw it, I curse you with "The Caesar syndrome"!! That snake is going to have a bottomless pit of a stomach and grow like a weed and eat you out of house and home haha. :D

And I expect pics when he gets there. None of this 'he needs time to settle in'!!

Lol we'll see about that buddy! He's about 3 weeks from his first birthday and is apparently only around 30". Definitely going to be using Gio's maintenance feeding approach and see how it goes. And I've already got one snake with the "Caesar syndrome" but hers is termed the "Phyllis freak show"! She attacked and constricted a roll of paper towels earlier when I was cleaning the third piss from her in less than a full day. She ate a medium and a small rat on Saturday and is always looking for more!

Haha! That's awesome. Caesar has never tried to eat a paper towel roll. I saw a pic of a guys' retic who shot out of the cage like a bullet when he opened the door to clean its cage and it coiled a plastic garbage bag full of old snake substrate from the other cages haha.

And we'll see how that feeding goes mwhahaha /wiggles fingers at the new snake!! :D

Quarantine enclosure set up and getting temps dialed! My old neodesha Plastics enclosure that I've had for about 16 years. When Phyllis gets a new cage the new guy will get Phyllis's T8. About 17 hours until I get to meet the newcomer! So far I think his name is going to be Gerald.

    Classic!

New breakthrough in herpetology: Certain species of python thrive on a diet of Bounty paper towels.

I am still feeding Wallace small rats. Usually every 7 days, but he can and will (like now) go longer than 10. He isn't interested in eating during shed. He actually "side nudged" or side blasted the rat away from him. He gets a bit pissy and I possibly attribute that to a touch more SD in him than Caesar, but more than likely its individual behavior.

He's probably still close in size to Caesar, but I've been feeding small rats from day one, and Sauz was using smaller prey at the beginning. My guess is Caesar out weighs Wallace and is probably longer. He is just about a month older. Wallace is a June 1st 2016 hatchie.

I can't wait for your new arrival JM. Its always cool when another member you chat with score something you like as well.

Keep us posted with a separate progression thread.

Haha, Caesar blasts my hand away with his body when he wants to be left alone. I don't cave and keep bugging him which then makes him actually have to move to try and get to the other hide lol.

And I remember the days when a small rat would keep Caesar happy. Those days seem so long ago. I fed him a small rat a few weeks ago from one Dottie didn't want and my god, after eating it, it just fired him up and he lunged at the glass door with mouth open and rubbed all over it like those fachuggers from Alien. Was hilarious and scary at the same time lol. I'll have to actually get a weight on Caesar when I find something to shove him in. There is no way on gods green earth he is going to sit still on a scale.

And yeah, I think Phyllis and Caesar are just pigs haha. They seem to eat anything, anywhere, anytime. Wallace and Riverrun are the more well mannered feeders haha.

And yeah I want to see pics of this new snake that you swooped in and poached from under me :D

I don't even get that much whizz from Wallace which is great, although he sometimes save it up to aim at me which isn't so great.

Too bad we don't all live a bit closer as I'd like to come see the other snakes I read about here in person.

I'm glad this board is still active. So many have died off and gone the way of FaceBook which I find sad.

Ok, well after wrestling with Caesar, I kind of got him to more or less sit still in a tub. It looks like Caesar weighed in at 2179g and that's empty. He left me a nice poop in cage today lol.

Whizz? Do you mean piss? If so, no Caesar has never pissed on me. I was talking about him shoving my hand away with his body when he is cranky and wants to be left alone lol. And the Facehugger thing is what it reminded me of when he tried to latch onto the glass door with mouth opened almost 180 degrees and rubbing it all over the door after the small rat which clearly just angered him into wanting more food asap lol.

Lol I told ya. Caesar is a monster for food. The weird thing is he is still skinny as a rail lol. I mean at tops he is maybe 2" thick at his fattest part. I don't know where he is hiding that bulk unless he is storing up for a huge piss haha. It's dinner night for him so I'll snap a pic of him after his large rat. This one is kind of on the small side but I'll get a weight on the rat before I feed it to him so you can see what kind of lump it leaves in him.

Yep, Whizz, piss, all the same. I was just saying that because JM was on his 3rd cleaning LOL!

Wallace has been perfect for me up to this point. He's usually an eater, but far from starving (I'm wondering if my rats are larger than yours) and he has not been too bad to clean up after.

He is much different form the other species here. Some feel carpets are just smaller, similar versions of SD and dwarf retics, but I don't see it like that. I feel the carpet I have here is closer in digesting and handling to the boa.

Activity is a tough one. I see ALL the snakes, sans the royal out climbing and perching after lights out.

Ok so I weighed the food. I went to the old shop I used to go for years since my normal reptile shop is a 1.5 hour drive roundtrip and I didn't feel like doing it today. I weighed the larges. One was 164g and the other was 147g. Those are both smaller than I usually feed Caesar so he ate both lol. I took some pics and you can see, they don't leave that much of a lump in him and he is still sitting around looking outside lol.

As you can see, they are noticeable but they aren't overwhelming. He does get a much better lump when fed a single 250g rat though and he gets nice and quiet after that too and just curls up and sleeps for a couple days lol.

When I had Allie, she ate like Caesar lol. She was about 3.5' and eating small rats every week. She would get a big lump, go up on her perch and it would be gone in a couple days lol.

As for activity, I always see my snakes out, even my BP is out stretched out in the front of the cage probably 3 nights a week. Everyone else, pretty much just sits out 24/7 anyways lol.

    OK,

    I'll weigh some stuff tomorrow.

As far as "out" I mean moving around and usually climbing.

Wallace has little to no lump now after smalls, and he could go up but I'm in no rush for a 10 footer.

I just got the ultimate cage price quote from Monster Cages the other night so it looks like Wallace will get a 6' wide by 30" deep by 30" tall unit.

I will deck it out for sure.

Anyhow, JM has a new critter coming and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

By the way JM,,, the quarantine cage looks great!

Lol I hear ya on the 10' snake. I don't really have a choice though because when Caesar gets hungry, he starts destroying stuff and the hungrier he gets, the more he pushes and smooshes his face. He's still got the 2 little scrapes on his chin from him pushing. They look better and should come out next shed I hope. Caesar is just very food driven. He'd be the guy out in the jungle dropping out of a tree on some unsuspecting passerby hahaha.

Nice size cage but how the heck are you going to heat a 30" tall cage? An RHP isn't going to reach the floor. You are going to have to offer a hotspot perch. I'm just going to stick with the T25. 72x30x18 will be plenty for Caesar...I think, unless he gets 10'+. Then I might have to look into the guy locally here who builds custom cages out of PVC to your spec and even delivers them cause I'm sure a 96x30x18 is going to cost me a leg in shipping haha.

And don't mind us poaching your thread JM. We're killing time until you post those pics!!

And the quarantine cage is ugly as sin. I never liked the look of Neodesha cages. Get a new AP cage!!! :D

Haha I just caught Caesar 'sniffing' the spot where he ate the 2 rats on top of his paper. He's sniffing the Eco Earth looking for more dinner I think. He is such a pig. He looked up at me when I checked in on him and then started flicking his tongue on the spot again lol.

And yes, that neodesha cage is ugly as all hell. I just find it easier to heat and hold humidity than my 20L zilla cage. As soon as Phyllis gets a new cage new dude Is getting her current T8

Kris at Vital Exotics figured he should top out around 7' with normal feedings. I am planning for 10' and anything smaller is fine with me. Bigger and I'll just have to deal with it lol. He's got a really good disposition so I'm not too worried honestly. If he was a biter or sketchy, I would probably worry a little if he got really big.

And yes, that neodesha cage is ugly as all hell. I just find it easier to heat and hold humidity than my 20L zilla cage. As soon as Phyllis gets a new cage new dude Is getting her current T8

I hear ya there. I'm using my 40 gallon long and 30 gallon longs as my quarantine cages. Humidity is the only hard part. Good thing about them is I treat the inside with PAM and then I just wipe the top and bottom rings of the tanks with PAM to quarantine any mites too lol.

    Tick Tock :)

Right on. He is gorgeous. 10 wouldn't be so bad. Still somewhat manageable.

Oh yeah, shouldn't be a problem. It's not really the length, its the girth lol. Rosey is around 7' but she is thick. Probably close to a pop can thick and 12.7lbs. I mean she is really mellow too and i'd be floored if she actually ever tried to bite someone. Caesar is much thinner but a lot more active than the boas. I throw around my shoulders when I take him out but most of the time he just crawls all over me or stretches out and stands up and tries to grab stuff or climb on stuff he can reach lol. He's like the little 2 year old kid you gotta watch constantly so he doesn't pull something over or knock something over lol.

Well JM didn't claim that picture was his, just the snake in it as it is the one he purchased from the owner of the pic. So I really doubt Bob Clark would try to start anything over it as like I said, the person using the photo purchased the snake and isn't using the photo for any kind of profit.

Also I read a whole thing about someone who used the "I'm my own pillow" comic snake drawing but was claiming it was theirs because they changed the pattern and head on the snake when clearly you could still see the basic drawing of the original. It was just traced and then a couple little things changed.

Regardless the original owner was disappointed that credit wasn't given to her but as far as being able to sue for use of it, I guess it couldn't be done. I don't know the whole thing as I didn't really pay attention but their issue was different as this person claimed the drawing was hers even though only the pattern and a small feature on the head was changed. In the case here, like I said, JM is not claiming the pic as his and I really don't think Bob Clark cares about the pic considering the snake was sold to said person using the pic for illustrative purposes only.

It would be the same as if I took a pic of a cage and put it up for sale and then someone bought the cage and then used my pic to show what the cage looked like on a forum. I personally wouldn't care as the pic is not some piece of art that is going to make millions of dollars, its a pic I took so people could see what I was selling lol.

He's here and he's a squirrelly little thing! I imagine he hasn't had much handling aside from cleaning over the last year. Probably about 3.5' long and looks totally unreal. Bone white with a bunch of pale yellow and a pair of faint lateral stripes down his sides, grey scales on his face and jet black eyes. Took a giant piss about 30 seconds out of the bag but I managed to get him over the bathroom linoleum in time haha! He'll fit in here quite well. Welcome home Gerald!

Thanks buddy! I just posted his new progression thread a little bit ago. More pics!

Yeah I was a bit surprised. Bob said "about 30", I think". Definitely more in the 40"+ range, which is still absolutely tiny for a one year old retic. Looks to be about a half a foot longer than the cage which is 3'. I'm still in disbelief that I have this snake in my care. Never thought I'd own a Bob Clark snake and here it is, and in super dwarf size no less. Crazy
