what is the chance of getting mites after adding a new snake to your collection?

what is the chance of getting mites after adding a new snake to your collection with out putting the new snake in quarantine as it is hard as i have no more rooms i can use for that.

Mites are not the worst thing that can happen when you introduce a new snake. An infectious disease is very hard to spot in reptiles and can take your entire collection. Do the best you can, a separate room ,across the room, separate enclosure but be very diligent with cleaning everything including yourself in between contact with the quarantined animals and the rest of your collection . Maybe a friend wouldn't mind taking care of your new snake for a while while its in quarantine.

As above, mites are a nuisance rather than a huge problem. In reality, the diseases mites can transmit are more problematic.

If you have limited space but are concerned about mites you can do a few things:

You can put a barrier around your new snakes enclosure so that escaping mites will be stuck/trapped by tape or killed by diatomaceous earth. Both will successfully kill adult mites. Realistically, if you are practicing good quarantine husbandry such as wearing latex gloves when dealing with your new snake and enclosure and making sure you don't touch your other snakes or their enclosures after your new snake, in all likelihood, you will be fine.

I send new snakes to a friend's house to live in isolation for 90 days before it crosses my threshold. His wife doesn't like snakes but will let him have one at a time as long as she knows it's not taking up residence permanently.

ok so i have recently got 2 snakes around a one week period about a week ago and in another couple weeks i am getting another one so should i just monitor all off them for mites and infections as they are all kinda new snakes and treat it as quarantine if that makes sense? and i have checked both snakes and even taken them to a local reptile specialist and he says that they both look healthy and cant find any mites so do you think i will be fine but obviously like someone has said there are hidden disease's.

It happens depending on the source chances can be pretty high.

I always guarentee e not matter what the source and pre-trial for mites no matter what the source, trust me if you do not quarentine mites could be the least of your problems.

People that thoughts quarentine was impossible, or over rated or people in a rush have lost partial collection to entire collection because of this.

for the money and effort i've put into raising my animals im not going to risk loosing them because i didn't quarantine.

I'd say about the same as taking a man/women you don't know home and catching something. :D

Not quarantining is an incalculable risk. You can not do it and have zero issues or you could have mites on everything or you could lose all your snakes or anything in between. Does getting that new snake offset the risks involved to you is the question. Most of us here put far too much time and money into our collections to even consider not quarantining.

I've purchased 16 snakes now. Of those 16, I received one with mites and one with an RI.

Mites are cheap to deal with... RI's are expensive. Other diseases can kill off everything.

I can't seem to find a thread on this, so if there is a link could someone share it for proper quarantine procedures please. I've heard mixed suggestions...same room different area of the house, etc....I'm picking up a snake next week and want to do it properly. Thank you in advance.

when I started out with my boa and wanted to do a bio-active planted set up, I was out right told on another forum that I would have no way to control mites. almost 3 years on and no mites... was feeling pretty good. then we got two BP's from two different places and they both have mites. so for me it's 2/3 chance. they are not a big deal to get rid of/manage, kind of more of a head trip to get over seeing them and having them crawl on you than anything else.
