Hatchling's eye bulging and white ring around it
Does anyone know what this is? They pipped yesterday, two are out of the eggs. This one and two others are still in egg. Pairing was OD X pastel.

Looks like a genetic problem more commonly associated with kahl albino boa babies, that makes them prone to an infection and eventually they can lose the eye if not treated by a vet.

Wow! Congrats on the clutch. I don't know what that could be and I don't want to speculate. However, I think you should consider showing the pictures to a exotic vet for some definitive examination and a more accurate diagnosis. Maybe after the first shed it will disappear. Hopefully. Good luck and I hope it's not serious.

It's a congenital condition called bugeye. I've seen pictures of it in several species but never seen it in the flesh. Nobody knows the cause for sure. My own guess is that mild vitamin A deficiency in the mother caused the same deficiency in the baby. One of the symptoms of that deficiency is thick, viscous tears. If that blocks the tear duct, the increased pressure causes the bugeye. If so, vitamin therapy may help. But how much of the damage can be reversed is anybody's guess.

looks like an eye infection that happened recently to another hatchling here - http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ith-Hatchlings sounds like a visit to the vet and antibiotics are in order as soon as it gets outta the egg.

I have one baby from combination butter pastel x pastel and his/her eyes is something wrong too.
To me it looks like there is an infection under the fascia which cover his/her eyes. Otherwise baby works fine, no other problems and has even start eating.

Eyes did get better before first shed but now they are worse again. I will try some antibiotic drops. Hopefully it helps.

That paradox BEL is amazing I hope you can clear up the infection.

The first baby looks like the whole eye is crusting over not just a stuck eye cap but it's good that the swelling is reduced.

Both animals probably need antibiotics from a vet.

I think that this can't be paradox bell because it's from combination of butter pastel x pastel :confusd:

well, IMO that top one is def. just Pastel. unless the bottom one is the mom and was previously bred to another BEL-animal and retained the sperm, i dunno. :confusd: but that's why it's called a paradox. ;)

Pastel is the mother. Also mates this season with a super lesser. I do not know, I'm a little confused :confusd:

I hatched an animal like that a few years back (2012), it almost appeared as a thick eye cap which would peal off and go away and come right back.

This animal was the only one in the clutch with the issue.

The female had never produce any animal with that type of issue (either before or after), as for the male it was here on a loan, not sure if it was used in further breeding.

I kept 2 of the siblings which were perfect and have since produces perfect offsprings.

I do not believe this to be genetic. Just a diffect.

That's odd! How did you end up with a white snake with normal patches from a pastel female? Crazy!

Yes all of the others in this clutch are fine as well. So it just always peeled away and came back?

It's been my experience while in my care yes.

The animal was part of a breeding loan and was picked by the other person so I did not raise him, so I could not tell you more about it, it stays in my possession for about 2 months.
