Got Bit!
Took a chomp from a big male Columbian. 😂 First time being bit by a boa.. haha, his head is nothing compared to that of a big female, but uhm, ow! Lol If only I hadn't of instinctively pulled back, probably would have hurt as much.. nevermind the fact that I got bit, though, he stole the keys to the lock at the same time! What a turd.

Re: Got Bit!
Awww dang that sounds painful - was it your hand?? Did it bleed? Hope you're day gets better lol p.s. where in Canada do you live?! Nice to see a fellow Canadian on the forum =)

Re: Got Bit!
Years ago my big boa nailed me pretty decent but by far my worst tag was a large green iguana. Man he tore me up bad and was about as mean a critter as I'd ever seen. You had to watch both ends of him as he'd whip his tail too and it didn't feel too great either.

Yep, my little hand. Lol right across my three fingers, my one pinky joint is bruised. *sigh* it definitely bled, ahaha. There was evidence smeared on the glass and a nice drip trail. Lmao
Ontario! 😁

I've got two scars on my pinky from a big mean green iguana, one on the top and one on the bottom. I will admit to avoiding them nowadays! I really avoid most lizards to be honest, I don't like the way they often latch on and flail around, literally ripping you open. I had an AFT rip open my finger and leave a nice flap of skin.
I much prefer the bite of a snake which is just some holes in your skin! .. if you don't pull away, that is. *rolls eyes*

Re: Got Bit!
Omg sounds like a horror scene lol your poor little hand! Here's to no future bites :carouse:

I have been bit by a 13ft Burmese on the forearm which was more of a tag and release but I pulled away making it much worse. I bled like a stuck pig but it hurt nowhere near as bad a the bite I got from a 9ft scrub python. His teeth went into the muscle. Not much blood but it ached for weeks.

Lol, pretty much!;p Yeah really! I mean, I was pretty stupid how I went in there.... oops. Was going in for the water bowl, head was right at the water bowl, figured I could get my hand over his head for some reason, but he moved a lot faster than me. ;)

Yikes! x_x I had to look up the teeth on those guys, I cannot imagine. Seeing as this boa's bite was aching quite a bit for the first few minutes, and I can imagine a Burm hurting even more... then to think it could hurt more than that.. no thank you. Lol
Obviously my bite looks like nothing now, just a bunch of pin pricks all over my fingers, haha, and that little bruise. There is one spot, evidence of my instinctive yank, where it looks more like a velociraptor the size of a mouse scratched me, poor guy! God, even though it lasted 2 seconds at the max, the sound of the teeth ripping out was intense.
I'm one to try and avoid bites, like, REALLY avoid them.. At all costs. I am not a fan, lol. A snake has to earn my trust.... 😜

Lol be glad boas don't have teeth like ATBs. They are like a mouth of long daggers. Grats on joining the club :gj:

Re: Got Bit!
Hooray for the Big Snake Bite Club.😉 I will take your word on that. Lol

Got Bit!
Sorry to hear about your initiation! :)
I reckon I shouldn't be so lax with my Snakes. I just reach in and spot clean, change water and such without hesitation.
My main problem is with the Carpets. I have to fight them off from trying to escape when I open up their cages. When a Carpet wants out they never stop trying, and will sometimes wear me down and I just go ahead and let them out.
But then getting them back in is much harder than the Boas or Ball. :P
Boas are definitely more laid back!

Re: Got Bit!
I'm too concerned about being tagged to just shove my hand in and do stuff, lol. I even avoid wimpy corn snake bites at all costs. 😝 I'm a great example of being a wuss but loving the hobby.
I can't deny that boas are more laid back! 😁 Almost makes it an even more shocking experience when they suddenly get you... These aren't my snakes, though, they only get messed around with for cleaning and feeding, so warm flesh coming into the enclosure must be food! Plus they're a little cage aggressive it seems, though I would be too if I was just chillin' and this thing just came at my face. Haha
I've never tangled with anything like a Carpet, sounds like the kind of snake that would keep me on guard.[emoji14]Sounds like tons of fun when you realize they aren't out to get you though!
Punch is a cutie, I love boas, I would really like to dabble in bloods someday though. Get a hatchling so I can handle the heck out of it before it's big.. they have such cute but intimidating faces. 😃

I'm still waiting for my boa to bite me. He's still young so he has lots of time to make up for it
Lizard bites are awful though, I'd take a bite from any of my snakes before my BTS. Bit me once when he was little.... so much for hand feeding lol

Lol, I'm also waiting for my *own* boa to bite me as well. She's 3 and a halfish right now, growing slowly.
Eek, I can't imagine an adult taking a chunk!

Lol I also just shove my hands in my girls' cages and do stuff. Lol sometimes I stick my face up to the doors to take a sniff for a poopie. One day I will probably get bit but its only happened once so far with these girls and its cause Rosey was a baby and new and I reached in over top of her head and she hit my arm. Most of the time they don't care what I do. And you must have "quitter" boas there Reinz lol. Rosey and Vicky play hell to try and get back in their cages when they don't want in. They grab the drop down door with their tail or double back out and grab the top of the cage or the side of the cage. Or Rosey being big will clamp onto my hand or arm and its game over, I cant get her off to save my life lol. Vicky isn't as big so she cant really use the clamp method so she uses her sneakiness and will double back on my arm and crawl up to my shoulder. Dottie is the only one who actually more or less likes going into her cage and hides lol.

Ya it has been my experience the arborial snakes tend to have longer teeth. They don't tear and make you bleed as much but they are the equivalent of hitting about 50 inter-muscular shots of varying depths in the same 6" square area. The muscle aches for a while.
The scrub python that got me was fairly tame for a scrub python. He was just chilling on my arm and shoulders when it happened. He did not strike or hiss. He slowly turned his head and got close enough to my fore arm that his tongue would touch it then for no reason and in what seemed like slow motion he opened his mouth, bit down, released and went back to his normal chill self.
I guess it was his way ofor reminding me that although he was cool with me he could ruin my day if he wanted to.

Well I was comparing the head of the female to the male's after, and I was very much pleased that I got tagged by him and not one of the big momma's! Their heads have to be at least twice the size of the boys. Sheesh.
So, he is a pretty big boy, but I'm a pretty small girl.;)

Talk about pain!
That seems a bit rude of him, he could have gone for a more gentle reminder, don't ya think?;)

For the most part Frai, sorry you got tagged. These are captive animals with wild instincts. Once we begin to respect them and give them their space with due precautions we will eliminate alot of the bite occurences.

That boa is a big'n! That bite looks like it hurt alright!
Ouch - Double ouch!

lol, Irwin starts going up my arm and over my shoulder as soon as i start opening up his enclosure, then he weaves through my hands or, worst of all, he starts to slither around and into the wire shelves upon which his enclosure sits. Usually when i get the chance i sort of angle his head towards his warm side hide and all of a sudden he's like, "Ooh! I want to go to there!"

Re: Got Bit!
I have yet to be bit by any of my snakes and I don't want to lol. On the other hand my husband has been tagged by one of our bps and our boa. Oh! He also so got tagged by a rat. He said the rat hurt worse than the snakes.

Re: Got Bit!
It's not a nice thing that's for sure, lol. I don't know how people can say they barely feel it, I definitely feel even the hatchlings pokes! It's not bad though.
I can attest to how much a rat bite hurts, an aggressive or defensive rat bite is hell!

Cats are the worst. They basically have poisonous spit so the bites always get infected. I have a lot of cats, lol, so while most of them are nice kitties, I've probably had more cat bites than most people.
My first BP tagged me once when I first got him. He was only 100g so it wasn't much, just barely a scratch. I think he thought I was/had food. But he didn't strike at his food for months after that, just wandered over and started eating. Idk if he felt bashful about tagging me (fairly sure that bashful is not a snake emotion, haha) or if it was out of character for him to strike anyway.
I used to have tiger salamanders, and they don't even have teeth. But they had sharp mouths and it would slice like a paper cut. Owww!

Re: Got Bit!
Weird, I've never had a cat bite get infected. Lol Maybe that's just because I've never had a bad cat bite, always painful but never breaks the skin much... now the claws are another story for me. Haha
Awweh, let's pretend they can feel bashful. Lol
I used to care for tiger salamanders when they came in, I always fed them by hand, never had their mouths scrape me though!

That awkward moment when a couple months later I get a serious cat bite!
