What is the best looking non morph snake?
I was just curious what snakes look best all natural. Some morphs look cool but I can't really justify the price. If they meant better temperament or health I'd be all over them but if its just color I'll just stick with a normal. Repticon will be in town in about a month and I'm trying to do a little research and avoid an impulse buy when I get there. I like boas but their adult size is a bit intimidating. I currently have one ball python and he is the sweetest thing ever.

If you can manage the care of a brazilian rainbow boa they are absolutely stunning. That's one species that I don't think a morph could make better

Gray Banded Kings or Sonoran Mountain Kings are pretty nice looking and non morphs.

I think BCI's are a great step after balls. They are larger but they are not so big that one person can't manage (yes there are genetic outliers) but it depends on what you want out of your pet. If you're looking for something beautiful that will actually enjoy coming out of its enclosure and for a decent price, boas are a great choice.

I agree. I was in the same boat a while back. Until about a year ago, I had only ever kept ball pythons. I wanted something different, but not huge or known for being aggressive. I picked up a BCI male (he was a morph, so paid quite a bit more). He is perfect. He shouldn't grow to be that large, per what I was told at the show, he was the runt of the litter. I love him. He's much more active than any ball python I've ever seen, he's never missed a meal, and he's growing rather slowly. He growing much slower than I thought he would. He's still nice and healthy though. I think he's close to the 3 foot mark, if he's not already there. If you work with a boa at a young age, you shouldn't have much problems when they get bigger. Hope I was of some assistance. :D

For bright colors, my top picks are
    Rainbow Boas (BRBs)
Amazon Tree Boas (wide variety of color/pattern, all highly variable)
    Eyelash Tree Vipers

Subjective but it's hard to beat a nice normal corn snake as far as color intensity and contrast go - even got it going on with those checkered ventrals.

x2, I love the rich orange of normal corns. Womas and olive pythons look great too.

I never get sick of looking at my California red sided garter. He is a spaz but by far one of the most stunning snakes I have laid eyes on.

Woma python. Look cool and are easier than ball pythons to keep.
If you want something a little more challenging, green tree pythons are beautiful and can be as tame as bp's if you get the right local.

Would most of these be available at a small show? Repticon isn't that big here. I've only been once and didn't get a good look at all the snakes. My ball claimed me pretty early in the day so I didn't seriously look at any others. I know there were some GTPs, corns, and boas.

I went to a small expo this morning and they had a surprising variety of snakes besides balls, boas and corns. I saw a few house snakes, bloods and olive pythons. Keep your eyes peeled :)

I prefer "normal" corn snakes, hognoses, and blood pythons to the morphs. BCC is also gorgeous.

I also prefer normals of almost any snake to the morphs. My favorite variety of BP are the more "normal" looking ones... oh, and pied. :-)

Woma python... can be expensive, depending on your budget. I've seen males for $250 around here though.

Rosy boas may be worth a look, too. They come in local varieties that are natural, but seem like they must be morphs! This is my San Felipe female.

Have also kept some smaller locality boas (Hog Island) and a BCI who outgrew "his" potential and reached over 9 feet when I sold him. Think he may either have been a BCI/BCC cross or perhaps a female BCI, mis-sexed by the seller. Liked them, too.

Normal retic or normal burm. I know that you said size is an issue, but for the sake of just discussing pattern I'm not sure that any other snakes beat the intricately ornate design of both of these.

I'd have to throw my bet in with a well bred, red blood pythons (brongersmai). Their cousins, the Sumatran and Borneo short tailed are gorgeous as well. They are a bit thick bodied, definitely one of the bigger pythons, as far as weight goes.

Just picked up a couple timors and I think they're beautiful. Very pretty garter snakes out there as well and, depending on your preference, coming naturally in all sorts of colors. Check out more pituophis too while you're at it - some very nice locality animals throughout the genus and the pines are all gorgeous too.
