    100% kalatoa female is here!
She finally arrived. There was a weather delay in Memphis Tennessee that almost pushed it until tomorrow. Sounds like our local FedEx company got it figured out and pulled some strings to get her delivered today. Very impressed with their work. She wasn't at all flighty just very curious I think. She's about the size of a small corn snake I had years ago from Petco. Don't have a weight on her yet just letting her settle. :fest::fest::fest::fest::fest:

She came from Daniel solis, from reptile ave. I found her on a Facebook group for just dwarf and super dwarf retic classifieds. Wasn't finding much online, so thought I'd try Facebook. I'm not a Facebook person, but figured it wouldn't hurt to look. You have to join the group, but it's free, and full of ads. I found her the first day I was on there. I saw Daniels ad, and called him right away. He said he was sold out, but would sell his hold back if I was interested.

She actually just ate her first ft hopper mouse. I had 53, so I figured if she didn't, oh well. He was feeding live, but she took it the first time I offered.

Thanks. I was worried she was going to be real dark, but in person it doesn't seem that way. It makes her irredesience more pronounced. Im just happy to have her.

She is a worm too. She is so small it's hard to imagine that she is a retic. She feels like you're holding a small garter snake or corn snake but with a lot smoother scales. This morning I checked on her and her color was a lot lighter. She must be fired up.

very cool, looking forward to seeing her hopefully not huge growing progression, especially since you had posted pics of the parents!!

I'm looking forward to her growing as well. Obviously I went with her because I wanted a small retic, but she's so small right now that is almost unnerving. She was also the most expensive snake I've ever bought, so that adds a element of worry too. I'm just trying to focus on relaxing and enjoying the experience. It was funny feeding her because it was a strange feeling offering a hopper Mouse to a retic. I'll get a weight on her tonight, but I'd guess around 60 grams. When she got here, and I got her out of the bag, she was in a ball. Felt a little larger than a golf ball.

I'm thinking 4x2. Right now she's in a bin, then into a half of a t10. Even at a year, they usually are only 3-4 feet and slender.

That sounds right. I was asking my bf about your little cutie and showing your pics since I'd never seen one so small (him and his dad work with retics, dwarf and superdwarf), he was telling me this locale maxes out around 4' (and that they are usually quite flighty of course). I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing about your gal as time progresses!

She's actually pretty calm. I was expecting her to be more flighty. When you first take her out she's a little flighty, but settles down fast. She sat in my hand tonight for about 20 minutes, just kind of looks around. I expect her to end up around 6-7 feet.

Not yet, but soon. I ended up with 50 hoppers from big cheese, because that's what she was eating when I got her, and they sell them by the 50. She's grown a little, but still too small for 2. Maybe in a few weeks.

They are hard to find. I haven't seen anymore for sale since. I'd love a male for future breeding, but Will keep it to just 1 for now. They really are amazing. Every time I have her out I can't believe she's a retic. I feel guilty because she's turning into my favorite, and I feel bad for my albino ball python girl. They both get treated the same, the retic is just more entertaining.

Don't feel guilty at all. Retics are much more - not social exactly - but tolerant and accepting of people and handling than most other snake species.

They are. When they look at you, it feels like they are really looking at you, not just in your direction. Its hard to explain. They just seem more aware.

I agree with BCR and Yodawagon. I noticed mine to be watching me the other night. I have many different species of snakes, but the retic was almost immediately my new favorite. He seems to actually like to come out of the cage. Lately, when I've opened it, he comes launching out like he thinks there is food. Cute now, but won't be so cute when he's big!

Start hook training him now - crack open the enclosure door, slip the hook in, let him investigate it, and open the door the rest of the way once he settles.

Yeah that behavior is cute now, but it won't be in a year.

Interesting. Mines very curious too. I was worried she was going to be flighty, but she's not. She has pooped and peed on me more than any other snake though. I'd love to get a male in the future. Wish there was more morphs available, anery is pretty similar looking. She is incredible, I must agree.

Mine's a tad flighty as I'm getting her out of the cage but she calms right down as soon as she's out. Mine has also voided herself on me more than she has in her cage hahah! Super fast metabolism and growing quickly. Shed three times in the last 6 weeks and already up to 108grams from 59grams when she got here!

Mines was 114 when we weighed her a couple feedings ago. Shed twice. Both times she had the last 3/4 inch of her tail shed stuck. Its weird. I was able to get it off, never seen it stick in the same spot twice like that.

Was just thinking about this thread, weird. I'll have to get updated pictures. She's doing great. Last time we weighed her she was 200g. I'd say she's about 30 inches or so now. Had her out today. Climbed up on my shoulders then onto my head. Pooping and peeing are her favorite hobbies, which I've heard is a retic thing. I've come to realize that I probably won't be buying anymore ball pythons after owning her. I'd love to focus on super dwarf localities, when money allows.

ok i just found out that the inactive FB page for SD Retics belongs to a local guy who has a pair of 100% pure Kalatoa's. he's a guy name Brian of Breaking Balls (lol!) in Tacoma, WA. he currently breeds BP's and will occasionally breed his SD pair if he can fill a waiting list or something. i learned all this from our Reptile Show this weekend. he's got pix of both SD's on the page. gonna reach out to him and see whatsup. :)

Edit: adding pix - this is him with the full grown female.

I remember seeing him on Facebook. He was all upset about the lady act.

Also, Travis kubes looks like he has come out of retirement and has a clutch cooking.

There's also a guy breeding a karompa male to a female kalatoa. Might be an interesting clutch also.

They're out there, just have to look for them.

yeah, he really is upset about the Lacy Act. he won't breed his pair anymore b/c he believes he won't be able to sell a clutch locally. :\ also i just found out he's here on the forum too as Simple Man while doing searches for SD's.

but i'll keep an eye out for sure.

I really don't think Flighty is a good term for what she is. She's very mellow but at the same time very curious. She doesn't try to get away, she just likes to see what else is around but without being flighty if that makes sense.

do u think u will have to hook train her? sounds like she's pretty chill when out but a Retic thinking and snapping at food (even an SD lol) everytime the cage door opens can be just as tiresome.

Honestly, I've been just sticking my hand in there for her to smell, then picking her up. Its been working fine, not a single nip. I know That's a little weird, but it's been working fine. If anything changes, I'll hook train.
