    Super pastel?
This is my first clutch so I apologize for my ignorance. The pairing was pied x bumblebee. One hatchling looks like a bumblebee, but the second one looks like a super pastel to me. They haven't had first shed yet but are starting to color up. Thoughts?

Could you pied be a pastel pied?

I don't think so but I will post pics of pied. I was thinking maybe bumblebee was really killer bee, but looks like bumblebee to me.

Can you post a picture of the parents? They sure look like a Super Pastel and a BumbleBee to me, but that begs a few questions.....

Was the female a virgin? Possible retained sperm?

Was picked up as an adult. I'm pretty sure it was a virgin but I will try to verify.

Yeah he doesn't look like a pumpkin pied but that sure looks like a super to me as well.
    Has it shed out yet?

Oh, my bad, I thought they had shed already. In that case, the one that looks like a Bee is probably a nice Spider. That other one still looks like a Super Pastel to me though. Interesting...

I'd have to disagree, that's definitely not a Spider, it's a Bee. Middle baby is an unshed spider.

Yes, 10000000000000% a Bee. That does look like a Super Pastel, though. Let us know what the breeder says, he may have bred her.

Awesome, looks like you got a good deal, then. Anymore hatchlings aside from the Bee and Super Pastel? (:

No only two hatchlings from this clutch. But hopefully I will have a few more interesting clutches this season.

    Re: Super pastel?
So that would indicate the Super Pastel was sired by the Pastel het Pied, and if so that means it is only possible het for Pied, correct? Now what about the Bee? The Pastel could be from the Dam/Bee or the Sire/Pastel het Pied. So there is no way to be 100% certain it is het for Pied unless it is proved out. That's kind of a bummer, since you had probably expected them to be 100% het Pied. They are really beautiful just the same.

Exactly! Now I have to deal with poss hets. At least it was a bumblebee and a super pastel instead of normals.
