Finally hatched out my first clutch!
So after 4 years, I finally got my first clutch. Pairing was spider to pastel. I got 9 eggs, but lost 2 due to weird yolk issue. They were both bumblebees too :( So final tally is 4 bees 1 spider and 2 pastel. Thing is, the bees look so different from each other. 2 are normal looking bees and 2 are very light with brown markings vs the black of the other bees. Any idea? I'm of course waiting til after shed to figure it out, as I know that could change.

I count 2 bumble bees, 2 lesser bees, 2 lessers and a spider.
Is your bumble bee male a queen bee or pastel female a lesser pastel? Of course butter and lesser are more or less the same thing, just to confuse things a little more.
Or has your female been paired in the past and not layed? Which could indicate retained sperm.

Mom is a virgin and the only 2 males I had with her are both spiders.
I will find some pics.
I thought lesser as well.

Well I know it's not in the parents. It's just weird how the babies look. And I have no male lesser/butter.

Cool. Idk, lol. I definitely don't see lesser in the parents. Very nice balls and gorgeous babies either way. Congrats!

Those are definitely Lessers/Butters. How long of you had the female? What size was she when you got her?

Have you had her since a hatching? If not, there's no way to prove she's virgin.

Also isn't 9 eggs big for a first clutch?

Re: Finally hatched out my first clutch!
I've had her since she was a hatchling so I know she was virgin :) And yeah I was surprised at 9 eggs, but she's also over 2100 g and 4 years old before having her first clutch. So maybe that's why? Babies will be shedding any day now. I will post updated pics why they do. [emoji16]

Nobody confused anything. Those are indeed Lesser and not pastel. Unless the wrong picture got posted, or somehow The camera altered the color and pattern of the snakes. If the OP isn't leaving out something then one of the parents must be carrying the gene with Very low expression. I have hatched out lessers & pastels.

Can you find out if either of the parents of this clutch had a lesser for a parent. It has happened in the past that chimeric animals (and even humans!) will have ovaries/testes that contain different genetics than are visible in that particular individual, and thus throw offspring that they technically 'shouldn't be able to'.

I doubt the guy I got them from will remember from years ago, but that is definitely something I will check into :)

the striped snake on your last picture is the craziest of all in that pretty mess. i see 2 bees. 2 lesserbees. 1lesser. and that last snake the head in the middle on the last picture that could be a weird lesser. I m also thinking your pastel is a chimera: pastel/ butter but the weird lesser need a evolution checking!!!
super excited for you
