    Breaking News - He Pooped!
3 weeks of snake ownership and his royal Awesomeness pooped. In his water bowl. It actually worked out pretty well as I treated him with reptile spray again last night. Cleaned out the cage, wiped it all down, put fresh paper towel in. For the first time in a long time he did not head straight to the water bowl. Mite treatment working? This morning he was in the back corner of the cage and the water bowl was like a nuclear waste dump :)

What I have noticed since I took the substrate away is that he has not been in any of his hides. He generally chills at the back of the tank.

I'm not sure if that would indicate that the treatment is working. But you seem pretty happy that he's pooped. :P

That's why I questioned it :) Historically he headed straight to his water bowl.

Ah, that part may be an indication as to the fact that the treatment is working. But you will have to wait for someone with more experience (Possibly experience with mites) for that question to be answered. I do hope that this is an indication that the mites will be gone soon, best of luck. :)

Yes it would mean the mites are going away because he is not in his bowl trying to drown them, just try to treat weekly for at least a month then for the next six months treat monthly just in case! :)

Will do. Should I not return to Cypress mulch at this time ?

I would wait out the month so you can still see mites on the paper if they are still there. After that you should be good to switch back.

I actually fed him tonight. Its a day early. I actually need to weigh him, not done that yet. Anyhoos, he was very obviously hunting tonight, even after 3 weeks with me I can understand when he wants food. So I thawed a mouse, offered it to him and within 2 seconds he was wrapped around it :)

    One happy Monty!!!

Good to hear he's eating for you! Jynx refused to eat until all of his mites were gone, but he is also a picky boy who gets mad when I even try to change his bedding from coconut fiber to something else. It is really cool when you start picking up on their personalities and can just kind of tell what they need. :)

Yes exactly, it is cool. He was roaming around the cage , sitting by the glass doors a lot and generally just roaming around as soon as I had turned the lights off.

Every feeding day morning when I wake up Jynx has half of his body out of his hide, wrapped around and is just staring at me (his tank is on the dresser right next to the bed). It's just like "yes, yes, I know it's feeding day, don't worry." lol

It is funny. I'm amazed at just after 3 weeks I can tell what Monty wants, or does not like, or is not comfortable. I can wait to get the substrate back in as I know he will feel a lot better.

I was amazed when I first started working with snakes then brought Jynx home how easy it is to tell when the want something or don't like something. It just makes me laugh now when people who don't own reptiles tell me there is no way to tell

BPs are always happiest when hiding, indeed.

Apart from, you know...When feeding day comes along! :taz:

Glad to hear the mites are going away. Him not sitting in the water bowl is deff a sign of that. I would agree with waiting out the month before switching back to your regular substrate.
