Did something bad today...
So I was super bored in physics today and started looking through world of ball pythons morph list, specifically the 'new' section. Now I know that most of you have said that 'you can't just have one snake', but I was really hoping that I might be an exception...well, after seeing some of these beautiful creatures that might just have to change. So, here is the list (#1 being the 'in my wildest dreams' snake) that I've come up with...
#1 Calico cinnamon lesser
#2 Silver Streak Pied / Silver streak albino pied
#3 Cinnamon Enchi Ultramelanistic
#4 Savannah Superfly
#5 Crystal Pewter Fire
#6 Axanthic pied
I guess I was planning on getting an animal plastics T12 anyway for Mashadar, so I guess getting a T60 and putting in a divider really wouldn't be too much of a stretch...

Re: Did something bad today...
Yeah I said the same thing when I first started looking at getting a pet snake. Then I discovered BP morphs and it was game over lol. Those are some nice looking snakes in your list. I hope to make some Axanthic Piebalds in a few years. The Silver Streak Albino Piebald on WOB has paradox markings I think. I really like that Crystal Pewter Fire too.

Re: Did something bad today...
Due to cost, I bet some of those will always be out of my price range, but hopefully a pied of some kind will find its way to me in the not to distant future 😊

I find myself constantly pinning for snakes I cannot afford as well... I too wish for a pied in the future

as far as the calico cinnamon lesser, the snake in pic #1 looks quite different from pics #2 and #3

I don't think a T60 is a good choice for BPs. I guess your thinking of putting multiple dividers into the single cage? The dividers work best 1 per cage as they will intersect with the center support. Dividers not centered will leave a small gap between sections. I think a T3 is great for adults and you could divide it for the youngsters. A T12 is wasted space for BPs, they don't need and won't use the height. A T8 has the same floor space and is half the price. You'd be much better off getting 3 T3 or T8 for about the same price as a T60.

i did something similar. 1 restless night i created a Fauna account and browsed their classifieds. i got my second BP before i fell asleep. :)

Was Newtonian mechanics not stimulating enough?? BPs are definitely addicting. If you see yourself getting more than a few in the future, go for a rack system now and save yourself the hassle. Animal Plastics and Beeger Boxes make great systems that are plug and play, and very durable.

I'm certainly not arguing as I've only had my ball python for a little over a month, but I keep reading that they don't climb, they don't need a lot of space, they are not active, etc.
Yet, Mashadar is 197g and is in a 40 gal breeder and is doing great. He eats every 5 to 7 days, took a f/t rat pup at his first feeding despite only ever eating live at the breeders and being in a rack system. He has passed normal stool and urates twice. He comes out of his hides every night around 11pm and climbs up all his branches, explores for an hour or so (longer as he gets closer to feeding day), sometimes gets a drink, then picks a hide to chill in until around 5 am when he usually comes out again while I'm getting ready for work/school. He has 5 hides total, and very occasionally I see him switching from warm to cool or vice versa during the day. He has not shed since I have had him yet, but when I change his water or spot clean his messes, he sticks his head out of what ever hide he is in and watches. He does not ball up or hiss or seem at all tense.
My point is, if a 197g juvenile is not stressed out in a 40 gal (which I have read is even excessive space for an adult), then an adult could be fine in any cage bigger than that as long as they are given plenty of cover. So the T60 divided in half would give a 48x24x24, which is larger than a 40 gal and would be used for at most 2 adults, one on each side. This is only taller than the T8 which would allow for some vertical space. I know Mashadar tends to go high, even when out of the cage. I don't see why that would change with age (other than possibly being less active). I also realize that this also depends on the snake, some are probably more shy than others and this set up would not work.
These are just my thoughts and I did have a 10gal on stand by in case he was stressed when I brought him home, but he never needed it.

I can't get my fiance to read them either. He made it to book 7 and stopped...it took 3 years for him to get that far :rage: He's more of a space / Si-fi type
I guess I hijacked my own thread...well, I've never been accused of always staying in topic :)

Re: Did something bad today...
Ha! At least he read some. They are a great series and your snake has a neato name. :-)

Well, if you want to give the snakes a 48x24 floor space, I’d still recommend two T8 or T10, you’ll save some cash and the snakes will be perfectly content. I’m not in the “a cage can be too big” camp. As long as there are enough hides (I think 5 in a 40 gal should suffice!) and cover. What’s can be stressful for the BPs is a large cage with wide open spaces. No matter the size/height of the cage, you can be sure the snake will explore every inch of it in its never ending quest to get out. However, I don’t believe that a 24 tall cage will provide the snake with any benefits that will lead to a ‘happier’ healthier snake. I also don’t believe it’s detrimental in any way. That T60 is going to be very unwieldy, definitely a two person cage.
Nonetheless, it is of course your choice and your money. Enjoy your snakes

I can relate to your dilemma my friend. Snakes are like a bag of Lays potato chips, it's damn near impossible to have just one. Most of the more exotic morphs are out of financial reach for me as well, but there are still many beautiful yet affordable morphs out there. A lot of breeders will also take payment plans for more expensive specimens so that's an option you might look at. I've also heard that a lot of breeders got their start by trying to offset the cost of their hobby by selling the offspring of the snakes they already had. Going to reptile conventions is always a stressful time for me, I love to see all the exciting morphs out there, but then I get to wondering if there are any personal belongings I could sell or well, you know what I mean. Personally, I just have to save my money, be patient and before long, I can usually afford what I'm looking for, it's just an act of discipline. Just a note here, it's currently illegal to sell any bodily organs on eBay...lol.:tears:

Re: Did something bad today...
I wish I had a smart phone when I was in school.. Just saying, haha. An Axanthic Pied would be awesome. Pied's are growing on me, haha. The new section hurts, my heart goes, "That one!" and my bank account goes nope. It's depressing. ;P

Good thing this girl can't read then. She'd have nothing to do all day.

Re: Did something bad today...
i was same way, my fiance said we could get 2 to 3 TOPS!!!! that was beginning of August this year, well now mid November i have 9 ball pythons different morphs some were rescues/take ins. went from planning on have a couple tanks maybe a rack but nope have a 10 tub juvenile rack and a 5 tub sub-adult/adult rack, and as long as my future wife don't kill hoping to sneak a few more in before this year is up. I'm taking the first step to admit I'M A ADDICT, I'M ADDICTED TO BALL PYTHONS AND ALL THEIR AMAZING MORPHS!! LOL
But luckily this all started with my 4 year old son wanting a snake for his bday back in October so he got his bumble bee he always wanted, so makes getting a new snake or springing a snake i already purchased on her bc she cant say no to him. but she loves them all and will handle them and what not its just dont have space until we move so currently the racks and snakes are in our bedroom!!:gj::snake:
