How Do You Secure Your Thermometer?
So I have 2 of the AcuRite Indoor Humidity Monitor's that you can get for about 10 bucks. My question is, how are you securing these inside your case? And specifically in a T8? I notice that they have a magnet on the back so I started to look for self adhesive metal strips but then thought metal and high humidity wont mix, and even if its stainless steel, maybe the adhesive wont mix with the humidity? Which would also rule out Velcro?

Any ideas would be great :)

These are the ones I bought. I think they were less than $10 at Walmart. The temp probe has a hole on the end of it and I plan on mounting it with a small screw, like in the first post in this thread: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-With-Pictures!

If yours doesn't have the loop, maybe try securing it with a hot glue gun? I wouldn't use tape of any kind in the cage itself.

No sticky Velcro inside the enclosure.
    Ever.

I like the glue gun idea. I'm thinking that to make the thermometer removable, maybe just glue a small square of thicker plastic with a short stubby screw drilled into the plastic. You can hang AcuRite on that.

Having owned a marine fish tank (200G) man I miss that :) I know that putting stuff like plastics and metals with animals is a no no. So I am glad I asked.

I might just leave them free standing for now until I figure out what to do with them.

Does your thermometer have a screw hole on the back to hang it or just the magnet? If just the magnet can you screw or hot glue a small piece of metal onto the back wall and use that for the magnet to stick to?

I think you guys have just given me the solution. What I am going to do is to try and put some metal on the outside of the cage. On the side. In the hop the magnet is strong enough :)

I epoxy mine to the inside bottom of the enclosure. It's as permanent as can be though, so make sure you never want to remove it!

Well I want to remove it to change the batteries :)

    Changing batteries is overrated!

I epoxy the probe inside, the thermostat itself it not in the enclosure.

Why no velcro? I'm no pro so would like to know. Pardon my ignorance

The problem is not the Velcro, it is the sticky back. If a corner peels away, your snake can get stuck on it.
Of course, Velcro also comes w/o the sticky back. Maybe you have some unwanted clothing with Velcro tabs that are still in good shape? Craft stores, and Wallmart also sell it that way.
I have not done this, but I assume one could hot glue the Velcro to both the wall of the enclosure, and the back of the thermometer.

My other thought is to just use rubber cement, and cut with a blade when you want to take off the thermometer. The rubber cement should clean off with a razor blade, and fresh can be re-applied. I am planning to go this way when my thermometers arrive later this week from Reptile Basics. (For now, I've been using the temp-gun, and a borrowed hygro we keep in the kitchen.)

The VE thermometers I ordered have probes, but I want them mounted on the inside as well. I don't want a bunch of wires dangling everywhere!

    Question Shaggy:

This is a bit off topic, but are you using a UTH? I assume you have some way to accurately measure the temp of the actual hot spot where the snake rests? A thermometer a few inches up the wall measuring the ambient on the warm side can't do this, and the snake might get a burn, even if the temp. on the thermometer looks good.

I am using a Radiant Heat Panel - The heat gun reads the same or a degree higher than the thermometer. The temp in his favorite hide is 84 - 86
