Picked up my first BP Morph
Hey Everyone - Over the last few nights I've done a little research on BP's and after stopping by a local shop I fell in love with this guy.
The kids working there told me it was the offspring of 2 super bananas'. Any thoughts/Insight into this guy and his potential in breeding in the future.
I've raised Dogs, Cats, and spent a few years in aquariums but I think this could be a far more rewarding and enjoyable hobby!

Doesn't look like a super banana. I think it's a super lesser. The eyes seem a bit large and have a bluish tint, so I'm going to go with that. Decent breeding potential with him, actually. If he's a super lesser, all of his babies will be lessers. Pair him with a two gene female and you could have some interesting things come out of that pairing.

What's your setup for him? :)

His eyes are actually red. I think it was the reflection of my shirt the camera caught. His body is elmers glue white, no pink or albino hinting. Definitely something unique for me.
I am assuming a 2 gene female is the offspring of 2 morphs mixed, like a pastel orange ghost?
Right now I am actually traveling for work so he's in a 20 Long with Coco fiber and some hollow logs and a heat pad and smooth stones. I'll grab a light for him this morning. Once I return home I'll set up a long term much larger enclosure.

Super lessers have red pupils, so that's what you could be seeing there. Anyway, a super banana is a lot different.
Yes, that's correct.
Do you have a thermostat for the heat pad? If not, unplug it. It could burn him. He actually doesn't need a larger enclosure. A snake as little as he is would be quite stressed in anything bigger. The half logs aren't good for ball pythons, too open. Temporarily it could be ok, but please be aware of that.

Thanks! I am going to grab one today. For now my hotel suite is always cold (71-74) without avail and the tank doesnt seem to be getting any warmer so hopefully we'll be alright for today.
The log he stays in is whole - It has a 1 3/4 (2inch maybe) hole he seems content laying in. All in all a very curious snake.

Honestly, I would turn it off if the room is that temperature. It may not seem warm to you, but if the snake burrows down and touches it, he could potentially be burned so severely that he'll need extensive treatment. Unregulated heat pads can get very hot, well over one hundred degrees. Unplug it for now and get a thermostat ASAP and you'll be ok. Better to be safe than sorry, you know?
Do you have a picture of your setup, by chance?

Just unplugged it. Thanks for the tip.
His enclosure is in the first pic. Its a little bare at the moment but my only option after getting him was Petco

No problem. Want to make sure he's as healthy as possible. Keep in mind that a heat pad doesn't do much for ambient temperatures, so since the room is a little cold, you could try using a heat lamp. Be aware that those kind of kill humidity. I would grab some digital thermometers that also measure humidity and a temperature gun from Home Depot. You want the humidity between 50-60%. They might also have a lamp dimmer to use to control the heat lamp.

(un)fortunately I am in South Florida so lack humidity is rarely an issue.
Thanks for the pointers!

Ah, alright. You're probably fine on that front, then. I would still pick up a temperature gun from Home Depot. It'll read the temperature of any surface you point it at. Very handy tool. That way you can adjust the heat source properly when you get one. I'd also check around for dimmer switches, that way you can get a heat lamp set up. Normally I suggest heating pads or heat tape, but because the room is a little cold, the lamp is probably a better way to go. Red bulbs are more commonly recommended for ball pythons than white bulbs. The hottest point in the cage should be ninety degrees, and the coolest should be seventy-five to eighty degrees.
No problem. You chose a beautiful little snake. I want to be sure that he's as healthy and comfortable as possible and you have a good experience owning him. :)

Petssmart or petco should have lamps with dimmer switches instead of just toggle switches, thats where i got mine at, also if theres alot of extra space in the tank try cluttering it up to make the space smaller and more his prefference

I was thinking atleast while this size I could get away with some tropical plants - hardy things he can crush and trample over.

I called the breeder I picked him out from and they INSIST he is a "Super Butter"
I'm including a few pics I just took that really show him off that may help identify.

Last I checked BEL's go for around $300-400 unless it has bamboo in it in which case it is going to cost around $5-7,000
