Neck Lump, Whats wrong with my BP

I have a female mojave BP that I've had now for about 1.5 months. Eating and pooping just fine. I haven't held her in about a week, but while holding her this morning, I noticed this weird buldge or lump protruding from her "neck." The way that it pops out is more square, and I'm not sure if shes ok. While handling, everything was normal and she didn't react any differently than usual.

I have aspen bedding down, so could it possibly be a wood chip?

I don't think aspen would cause that. It looks pretty rigid.

How does the snake react when you touch it or around it? Does it seem to be in pain?

Nope, she doesn't act like she is in any pain at all. I was touching the lump, and she didn't react / twitch or become defensive at all, just normal. Also when touched, it just feels like skin, you don't feel an actual lump.

Looking at that my first thought would be a wood chip or something, but normally aspen shouldn't do that. I guess there's the possibility that you could have ended up with a stray wood chip in your aspen (I've found rocks in eco-earth before so idk if harder woodchips could get into aspen shavings).

So when you say you don't feel the lump at all, does that mean the lump isn't hard? Does it feel solid or fluid-filled?

My advice is it's time for the vet.

Held her again this morning before work, no change in mood or disposition.

Also what I meant by the lump is not hard, is that its not hard or sharp or anything. When touched or when the she crawls over my hands her skin / body still conforms to what she is on, goes away temporarily then is visible again with nothing under her. You can touch it without it feeling any different than the rest of her body. No reaction at all to touching it.

Ive never seen it but it sounds like it may be her skeletal system. Since its still there with no change I think its time for an xray.

I wanted to thank everyone who has been supportive and has giving great advice and their opinions.:cool:

I took her out this morning, and weird enough it is completely gone. No lump, no abnormality, completely back to normal. Its as if it was never even there.

Today is feeding day, so we will see how she does. Like I said earlier, feeding and pooping never stopped.

Okay forum advisors...what part of the anatomy does that lump correspond to?

I'm going to say it was her "aspen chippius" acting up and it has now progressed further down the poop highway.

If you knew what it was you should have let the OP know instead of offering what you did.

My thought was a rib could have been out of place.

A rib can pop out of place and is a fairly common sports injury. When it pops out many times it can be seen and felt as a bulge in the back. I don't know that it could happen in a snake but I don't see why not. It hurts when it happens.

If I thought the snake was in any danger I would have. The OP kept his/her head and it resolved itself.

Now what part of the anatomy corresponds to where the issue was?
