    New member of the family.
So I woke up this morning a for some odd reason decided to get on craighist and the very first post was "Free to good home, can't care for'. So I made the call and drove a hour and a half and picked him up. I know I'm kinda new this but I think I have it figured out. And after seeing how hr was being kept I don't think I could do any worse. I think I saved this guys life. So it's snake #2 for me. I'll keep you posted!http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...f736d46ec9.jpg

This is what he was kept in. Regular light bulb and no other heat source[emoji107][emoji107][emoji107] http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...461f1df251.jpg

For signs of R.I you need to monitor his behaviour and keep an eye out for odd behaviour.

Also make sure you practice good quarantine - it's a good habit to start early as it can save you from a world of hurt in the future.

Ok newbe question. What all does quarantine consist of? Is there a thread you can refer me to?

Regular light bulb is fine as long as the ambient temps in the enclosure were mid 80's or thereabouts.

Just keep the new snake in a separate room...use something like GermX before and after handling, which you should be doing any time :gj:

I live in a smaller house and can't keep him in a separate room[emoji20]. As for the heating and light, should I not put a UTH in with him? Right now I have a ceramic bulb heating the tank. He is acting pretty good. He is out moving around and exploring. I slowly put my arm in to place a hide and he hissed at me once but was then fine. I'm just want wats best for him and make him comfortable.

No you shouldn't put a uth on it unless it's regulated by a thermostat.

What about feeding and handling. Should I wait a certain amount if time on feeding and handling?

We handle ours from day 1. I've seen a lot of people say to wait weeks but we haven't had any issues with feedings, striking, etc... We always offer on feeding day. If the new animal has been with us for a week or a day, if it's feeding day they get the same option the rest do. So far all the ones we have received on Thursday have eaten on Friday. Only 4 to date have refused a meal after shipping, but with in the next couple feedings.

So I'm on my way home from work and I'm so excited to see how the new big guy (we ended up naming him Conan. Lol) is doing! I tried to pick him up last night and he wasn't having it. He kept hissing at me. So well see what happens. I think I might try to feed him too.

Poor Conan!! I came home to a cold snake! The heat bulb must of went out while I was at work and his tank was 70 degrees! I am such a bad dad![emoji20] he would probably would rather be at the place I got him from. At least he had a light bulb. So I'm not going to feed him. Too cold I think. If I can get the temp up I might try later tonight.

I got his tank up to temp and he started moving around so I decided to go ahead and see if he would eat. I barely got the rat in his tank and he was coiled up around it. I think those people were starving him. Gotta get him on a schedule!!http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...1a9324733a.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...8a9cdc21e4.jpg

Conan is doing great! Sorry I haven't been on here in a couple days. He is eating once a week. And I'm handling as much as I can. At least once a day excepts feeding days and the day after.
