    Help Snake loose !
My stupid cat broke the lid to my tank and my young Ball Python (about a year old ) got out at some point during the night... I've looked high and low I don't see him. I live in Washington state in a zone 7 so I did not have the furnace going last night. I'm worried he's dyeing of cold some where. I've put out a space heater near the wall where his tank is in hopes he'll seek out heat, and have just put out a hot mouse in a tuperware hoping the smell draws him out( he's last meal was 7 days ago) any other tips or tricks please. I'm not sure what else to do to find him

    Look around your appliances.
TV, fridge, dryer, anything that puts off heat. Putting the mouse in a bowl is a good start too. Watch out for the space heaters. He may try to climb in or on them. Some may get too hot and burn him.

Let me know if you find him/her. Most of the time they don't travel too far from their home. Just continue to look in the warmer places.

Lay lines of flour on any tile floors you may have. If he/she slithers through them, you'll be able to tell and it may have been very recently. Good luck!

ok will do thank you. I'm also thinking if I don't find him by this afternoon going to get a live feeder mouse and put it in his tank setup on the floor? maybe attract him back home at night with warmth and warm food. lol and all nighter for me tonight of quietly staring at a mouse running around a snake tank.

2 Main places I found any snakes that got out are the closet or in between the couch cushions. Good luck and keep us updated please :please:

thats smart. if flour is too messy, you can use rice or something. you can put a line of it in doorways, so that you notice when the BP moved from one room into the other, and the direction it went.

the problem is, the cat might mess it all up. some cats might occasionally step onto the line of rice/flour, some cats drag their tail behind them, it depends. the cat might also be the one to first discover the BP, which can also be bad. watching the behavior of the cat can also help in determining where the BP may be hiding.

if the situation continues, the BP will need water long before it needs food. there are tricks to determine if the BP visited a water bowl, like balancing a few grains of rice on the rim, but again, that wont work if your cat also checks them out.

I received a lot of good advice here:

Our cat knocked the tub slightly in the rack just small enough and ours got out. we found her after about two weeks. Besides being a little cold she was fine.

Don't lose hope and good luck and I hope you find him!

Yeah I tried watching her first thing this morning she sniffed around the tank and even jumped in the tank then after awhile sniffed at the fridge witch led to me taking the back off to look around the one spot under there I can not see has me hopeful. I put flour all around the fridge and at entries. my cat will be spending the day out in the fenced yard... on an up note my neighbor is bringing her hound over to sniff around under our close eyes. my fingers are crossed

Dont forget about your cat. The cat may get the mouse before your snake does. I wish you luck finding him!

No luck yet. the hound was little to no help. so right now just waiting for my husband to get home and I'll try the live feeder and turning off all heat sources other than the tank with the mouse, including turning off my fridge.

Look up high as well, and also very tight spaces you wouldn't think she'd fit. Good luck.

Yes look high. I had one get out weeks ago and apparently she had climbed up around the wall heater (which is not even hooked up so it's pretty cold and drafty in there) and got into the wall. Found her by hearing her fall on top of the heater from up in the wall. We had to strip the heater apart piece by piece to be able to stick my hand up above it into the wall to grab her.

We had systematically took everything apart room by room and looked in everywhere and everything. I tried the heat matt tricks the live bait. None of that worked. Try that anyways though. Also try putting garbage or grocery backs along the walls and listening at night. I slept on the floor every night till we found her and listened until I fell asleep. Good luck! I think mine was gone for four days.

I've been in your shoes. From what I've noticed, my snakes have never been too far away from where they went missing; however, they can hide like nobody's business. You'll look a hundred times in the same spots and won't detect your snake. They are nocturnal creatures, so your best chance of recovery will be when it's dark and quiet. In both circumstances, it took a week and a half for my babies to show up.

As hard as it may be to do so, try not to panic. I thought my poor Loki who got lost in the car was done for because of the extremes in heat and cold. He disappeared four days before I had to fly and I hadn't been able to retrieve him from the car by the time of my travel. I spotted him in the trunk before the little butt went back to a spot I couldn't reach. I left a dish of water for him and thankfully a couple of days after my return, he came out for water. Good thing too because I didn't have much hair to rip out. He didn't suffer any ill effects and I'm so grateful. :D

A buddies going to hang out on the floor with me all night tonight. So I'm hoping 4 eyes will be better than 2 while he's his most active night time self.

Don't lose hope. I had one get out of his tank and I found him 3 days later and he was trying to get back in the tank. I woke up in the middle of the night and he was wrapped around the leg of the desk his cage was on .

Have you torn the bottom of your couch off. That is where I found my Corn snake when he got out. He actually made his way into the arm rest box.

Any luck with the hunt last night?

I would also say to confine your cat. If she's a rabblerouser who's already broken the lid, I would be hesitant to have her free-ranging while the snake is still free. They're opportunistic hunters, and it would be awful if your cat got to the snake before you did. If you can bear it, set her up in the bathroom/spare bedroom/any room you can close off with a litter pan and her food and water, so that way you can just focus on finding your snake. God luck!

Edit: I see that you did put the cat up overnight, so you're way ahead of me. I hope you find your little one!

no :-( I think I'm going to just say for now I have a pet mouse in a tank with and open top at nights and hope sometime soon I'll wake up to a snake lol most of the things I read about people finding their snakes again are a poof just when they last expected it. so I'll let him do what he does and hope he'll come back for a mouse soon, his last feeding was 7 days ago.

tried staying the night in the basement last night and still no luck. hopefully he'll get hungrier soon to come out. I can't imagine where he is... My house and items in it are very minimalistic (I've been able to keep my possessions under 120 things for a few yeas now) so there isn't to many hiding places. but to my dismay I did see a large hole in my basement window last night. so now hoping he didn't go outside... the past few days have been nice and mid 80's, but not for much longer :(

    FOUND HIM!
Sorry, I've been MIA on updating; but I've been down in the dumps and pulling odd hours lately. But he was just found today! LOL I was sitting on my kitchen counter talking to my neighbor and husband about Salazar oddly enough, and my husband looked passed me and says "I found the snake!". He was crawling out from behind the clock read part of the stove. NOT 5 FOOT FROM HIS TANK! :D after taking the stove so far apart I thought he'd never get it back together LOL
He surprisingly seems to be in good shape; he has now just ate his live mouse treat :mouse2: (I'm glade that mouse lived like a king the passed 10 days [with lots of fresh vegies and berries on top of mouse food] because Salazar eat him quick like.) and was gulping water for a good minute... The poor thing he was so thirsty.
Thank you so much to every one here
He was gone from April 30th to May 10 and you guys helped me never give up hope :grouphug:
