whats the easiest way i can do this?

Re: how can I transition from live to F/T?
Using a search bar would be a start. Just type "live to f/t" and im sure you'll discover a lot threads on this subject.
Btw, i'm not trying to be rude or sarcastic. Just trying to be informing.

Actually you are extremely rude and I don't appreciate it. I joined a forum to ask questions about peoples personal ways of doing things. If I wanted to look it up myself (which Ty I have) I wouldn't have joined a forum.

Mad patients ... get ur snakes on a good response 1st too .. they need to be striking soon as u drop ur live feeder in there hut ... the quicker they do that the easier it is to switch

Re: how can I transition from live to F/T?
I didnt see how Misha's taking the time out their life to help you was rude. But any who the only 100% successful method of this transition is as follows: Step 1 sell live feeder snake, Step 2 buy f/t feeder snake. Hands down best method ever :D

Re: how can I transition from live to F/T?
When I'm initially trying to make the switch I wait an extra week to make sure the snake is good and hungry. Gives me a better chance of him/her striking immediately. I try to feed as close to night time as possible, and I make sure to put the f/t under a heat lamp for about five minutes to warm it up to better attract the snake. Most hatchlings switch over for me after a week or two, adults can be much more stubborn. Generally I like to get everyone switched to f/t as quickly as possible since you can buy them in bulk so much cheaper than live. I also hate rats and don't want any live ones in my house!
Anyway, patience is key. There might be some skipped meals as the snake holds out for a live prey, but generally they'll cave and snatch up the f/t offered. I only have a few adults that force me to feed live. The rest I've trained to the point where I can put the dead rat on the floor by their hide opening before going to bed, and the next morning it's gone. if you're working with a hatchling you might not want to wait them out as long as an adult you're switching over.

Re: how can I transition from live to F/T?
Can you give us some info on the animal your trying to switch to f/t? How old is the snake? Older animals are usually harder to switch. Also, what methods have you tried to switch? The most important thing you need is patience and persistence. :) I'll try to help you out the best I can.

its a rather small juvie, i actually dont have it yet, someone on CL got it from a friend and they dont have the time to feed it or care for it. he hasnt fed the snake in 3 weeks cuz he couldnt be bothered. I have looked this question up got alot of information. I asked a simple question on a forum to get peoples personal experience on what works best for them. ty to those who are nice to reply. everyone else is on the rag and if my question pissed you off that much just dont reply.

She was rather nice about it.
The SEARCH bar is there for a reason ;)
The reason is that many people are too lazy to use it and there are those of us that are tired of answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over. Get the point?
The best thing is go get the snake to eat FIRST, put on some weight and then hope your will is stronger than its will.
Feed what it will eat and let it be happy.
What is it currently eating and why do you want to switch?

im going to appologize. Sorry, maybe I read it differently than it was meant to be read. Lets start NEW!!!!!!! I have used the search bar and google also. I understand alot of newbie questions are asked over and over. I looked up some. I just wont ask questions for help anymore. thnx to everyone who helped. again sorry. i asked for a quick answer its that simple. but really, if ppl are just gonna be rude they just shouldnt respond. now you have a newb that wont ask questions anymore, well done...

Its someone on CL. I didnt want to get it if i couldnt possibly make a switch. The kid hasnt fed it in 3 weeks cuz he cant be bothered. from what i gathered it eats live mice. I feed my other snake frozen thawed, its alot easier for me to buy frozen and store them.

Or evidently answer any questions asked either.
Enjoy your day and good luck with whatever you do.

Now that our posts overlapped.
Convenient for you is not always best for them, be prepared to have to feed live.
Like I said earlier, feed them what they will eat and let them thrive.
If there is any question in your mind about it then pass it on to someone that wont have issues with live.

thnx, its probably not worth it. not with my lack of experience.

Really now? Peoples personal ways of doing things??? A simple perusal of the first 8 pages of the General BP Forum would have yielded LOTS different peoples personal ways of doing things when switching over, from which you could pick and chose and learn. Right behind "My BP Wont Eat", your question is the most talked about subject on this Forum. Not to be further rude, but if you look past the first page of threads in the General BP Forum, you'd be hard pressed to swing a feline without hitting a thread on the subject.

Problem is, few things in life are simple, and while some BPs switch over easily, and some even switch back and forth, some can be very difficult or impossible to move over to F/T.

Gonna' take your toys and go home? That's not exactly an original move around here...

Don't take things to heart. Things on the net always get misunderstood and taken the wrong way. Happens to us all. No one wants you to stop asking questions at all, just give the topic a search before posting :) This may be an instance where you have researched it but still wanted more info and got a bad reaction. Once again it happens! Keep on posting :)

Ty i appreciate it. and i realize i probably read it the wrong way initially thats why i appologized and tried to start new, to no avail but its ok lol. ill continue to do my own research. thnx again

Yeah, Misha meant no harm at all. I'm not sure how much time you have spent on internet forums but things get taken the wrong way all the time. There is no body language, facial expressions or tone of voice to give you any true perspective on their opinion. There is no harm done so just take it as a lesson learnt :)

Ironically I come off the same face to face as most interpret on line :rofl::rofl::rofl:
Problem is I don't care if I hurt anyones feelings or not, I will answer questions without sugar coating them. Most people don't want to hear the truth.

lol smh im gonna walk away from that one. thnx for the help everyone.

I'm fairly new to this but our 2 yr female BP was always fed live and was currently being fed 2 live gerbils once a week by the previous owner (live rats are illegal in Alberta, Canada). We decided to try and get her switched over to f/t medium rats. What we did was buy one live adult mouse (our girl is 3 1/2 ft or so) and gave this to her first, once she went for the mouse (she killed it but didn't eat it) we dangled the rat (the rat comes individually wrapped so we ran hot water under the ALREADY thawed rat for a few minutes to warm while still in the package) she didn't go for us dangling the rat,but once we layed it in front of her (head first) she went for it like a pro!!! :P We were pleasantly surprised, we feed her once a week, hopefully this is the beginning of a trend. I will say our BP is a good eater though. ;)
