    Humidity help please!
Mya's viv is at 80% humidity!

    Way too high!

Is it because I've used orchid bark? Is there a way to get humidity down without changing substrate or will I need to change it to say beech chips?

Just keep the doors on the viv open for a while, it should dry things out before you get your snake. Just mist VERY little when needed to hit 60%.

Move your water bowl further from your heat source and get some better ventilation :) Hope these help! Good luck!

    Thanks.

Have opened viv up and have been advised the substrate will dry out and in turn humidity will reduce too.

    Waterbowl already at cool end

Yeah it should do. Your room will probably be about 50% humidity, give or take 10%. This will help a lot :)

Also, is the new viv you set up recently?

Sometimes the substrate right out of the bag is too moist and needs to dry out a little before adding to a enclosure without heat lamps.

This is just what I was hinting at above, think it may be the issue. I had it too. Give it 3 or 4 days and it will be completely dry.

Yes I think this is the case.

It's really wet straight out of the bag.

Should be ok by the weekend :)

I need to pop my heating on constant too as cool end is only 20.5C Have discovered this is more cost effective anyway and hopefully will only need it over the colder months.

So if room will be warmer then that should help dry bark out too :)

    Thanks all x

Like I said, I got rainforest bark and it felt dry out of the box but still gave off tons of water! There was condensation on his glass every morning for a few days.

Just wait for it to dry out, get the temps up a tad and it will be a great place for her :)

Yeah glass was wet before I opened viv.

Hoping heating will make the difference I need :)

    Thanks a lot :)

I've got the heating on constant now and I've put another digital thermometer in the centre of the viv as pictured to get an air temp.

As you can see it is currently 23C but has been gradually increasing all morning :)

Just waiting for it to level out so I know it will get warm enough in there, then I can take the doors out again to get the humidity down (Temp goes down when I open the doors)

Its now reading 24C (75.2F) which is advised as a comfortable ambient temp for ball pythons on a few care sheets I've just looked at.

Hot end is a stable 32C (I have the stat and thermometer probes in contact with the lino that covers the heat mat under the hide as figured that's where she'll end up)

Doors now open again to bring humidty down. (Again caresheets advise 60-75% humidity) is that right?

It should do, her in there with that humidity will be fine for a short period. Give it a few more days of drying and if it is still too high, create some holes for ventilation :)

EDIT: Are you looking to breed her in the future, due to her being het Albino?

Oh great. Yes if it remains high I will make some more ventilation holes :)

I would like to yes but would do A LOT of research first as it would be my first time breeding. I absolutely love albinos! Pied are my dream snake though!

I really love Mya's markings as well though.

I hope you get the chance to breed her :) I'm looking to breed my way up to a Lemonblast at some point! I'm a long long way from that though! One day :)

Another tip, if you need to dry substrate quickly after your BP arrives, spread a layer in a roasting pan or on a cookie sheet, and bake it in the oven at around 150*F (55*C maybe??) for an hour or so. Or if it's summer time, set the pan outside in the sun.

I've changed the substrate to beech chips.

Humidity now 55%. Will mist it when she needs it. (E.g during shed)
