lol I totally didn't see that the first time. But, yep! I have a pair of '12 Angolans. The female especially is trying to oust the Jungle Carpet as my favorite snake. I love them. Just wish they'd let me get decent pics of them

I do! I adore them also: great species to work with and so curious (even more than most of my boas!). Congrats OP :gj:

I will have one some day, I will have one some day... If I wish hard enough, surely it will come true! :P

Those are seriously beautiful. Do they always have that amazing gold color on them? Because if not, you may have a potential future line breeding project ready to set up.

From what I have seen, yes. I know they're typically variable a bit, from lighter golden to a bit darker brown.....I was told by Mr. Lazik that some he had even had a red tint to them! Boy would I have LOVED to see those!

I have a pair as well! They are amazing! My male is the most friendly and curious snake I own - even more so than my colubrids or boas! He comes out to say HI every time I open his tub. Mine are also 2012's. ;)

I've kind of been pricing them out lately, and have noticed that while there are a few available here and there, it's only males. Whats up with that? Are breeders hoarding them?

Females are hard to find because they are usually sold quickly. And sometimes breeders will only sell a female as part of a pair. I don't know if that means Angolans in general tend to have male-heavy ratios in their clutches or if breeders tend to hold more females back, but it's true that females can be hard to come across.

When I was looking 2 years ago, there was ONE breeder at Tinley Park who had babies - but you could only buy a female if you bought a pair. There were several other breeders who had one or two available, but they were all males.

I bought my pair from Chad Duggin once we returned from Tinley. Even he was only selling a female in a pair, but I was happy to make that purchase from him - his reputation is stellar and this particular pair's background is special. :gj:

Chad Duggin? Does he have a web site?

Never mind, I found it. http://www.cdreptiles.com

He only has three males available according to his website. :(

I've wanted a pair of Angolans for years now. And yours are gorgeous!!!

I guess I will just have to start saving up for a pair. ;) And a female Volta locality...if I can ever find anyone willing to let one go. lol.

They are by far the MOST inquisitive, and curious snakes I've ever kept. Very 'busy', always seem like they're on a mission of sorts, or that they have somewhere to be, lol. Plus, the feeling of their scales while handling them is just SO awesome.

I've had a pair since like '07, love these snakes. Breed rather easily too. Only have 0.1 from '13 breeding season left.

I just got a tiny 2013 male at Baltimore Repticon. I'd love to purchase a female or a pair in the future, but I'm fine with having this one as a pet for now. He's so fun to handle and has such a care free attitude!

Sorry - I missed this earlier!

As you found, Mark, he does have a website. Those three are the last 2013 babies he has left. He should have more this season though.

Archimedes, my pair is out of a female of Chad's that is routinely laying clutches with up to 14 eggs and multiple twins in each clutch. The female line is proving to be dominant in this sense so her daughters should follow her tendencies.

The dam is from Trooper Walsh and National Zoo stock and the sire is directly from Casey Lazik, who imported the very first Angolans into the US. He is considered the foremost authority on Angolans in the States and is possibly developing the very first morph involved with this species - he reportedly has a hypomelanistic individual that is throwing some interesting babies.

Chad Duggin is quite knowledgeable with his stock and is great to work with. If anyone is interested in picking up these amazing snakes, I highly recommend checking out Chad's site. http://cdreptiles.com/ :D
