    Swimming python
    Hi guys,

I am new to the site and wanted to show off a bit with my little prince, Bugo. He is a bumblebee ball morph and loves playing in the water. Attached is a little video I put together of him diving right into my fish tank. I hope you enjoy it.

    Sincerely,

    Greengirl

Most snakes swim very well and hold their breath just fine. My green TREE python swims in his pool under water and blows bubbles.

Thats funny but I want to see him take a fish.

Yes. He can. But people who know how to swim also drown.

All snakes do know how to swim, though.

I guess the reason i thought it was odd was because this site is full of TONS of pics of peoples' BPs in all kinds of settings but ive never seen anybody put a video of their BP swimming. This is new to me. But looks cool.

Yea. I don't think most of them like swimming particularly. There's probably a few individuals that do, but by and large I don't believe they swim very often. I think most of them usually avoid water given the choice.

What ever possessed you to let him in your fish tank in the first place?

There used to be a vid floating around on the net of RDR's bp's swimming around in his pool...as long as the water isn't too cold or have chemicals I'm sure they'll be fine...

That was kinda my first thought but he seemed to enjoy it and that changed my mind. That and he went right in the water by his own choosing. Now I want a fish tank with a snake tank on top. I think I would put my BRB in it...NO, SEA SNAKE with a salt water tank. Game on!!!!

I like to wear my python around my neck when I do chores around my apartment. I also have an aquarium hobby and he often slides off my neck will I am changing the water in my fish tanks. The first time he did it I freaked out that he fell in. Then he did it again, and again. Anytime he is near the tanks he really wants to go in. I was told it was unusual so I thought I would show you guys that pythons are very natural in the water. Thank you for enjoying it.

The water in the tanks are around 85 degrees so he really enjoys it. It is chlorine free and very clean and safe. And no, he never eats the fish.

The only thing I would caution against is that sometimes a swim will make them go #2...tank won't be very clean after that. :D

This is so funny because I have a male bumble bee ball python name BuBo and he loves water too! He loves to play in his water bowl and if I have to give him a bath (since he likes to play in his poo as well) he loves to play around in the water. But Eva my female normal hates the water it's crazy. I think that some like it and some don't. :)

Ha ha, no he hasn't done that either. He is a really great python. He is a modeling champ. I was asked to wear him to DC fashion week. A local designer begged me to wear her dress after she saw the snake with me and Miss USA 2013. I wish I could show you all but I seem t be having a hard time figuring out how to upload with URL. What do I do? I have the photo as a jpg on my comp.

Load it to Photobucket or similar and then copy/paste the img code into the text here. The pic will show up when you submit your post.

I think it just needs to be a "img" link to work so if you know another service it should work.

I was taught the photobucket way and its all I know.

BPs are really good at swimming and diving. it makes sense because the area they live in is quite tropical and not dry at all, so they can cross rivers and survive floods. most snakes also are really fast swimmers if they want to.

i would say its perfectly fine as long as the water temperatures are right and the water is good.

what i especially like about the video are the underwater tongue flickers, you can see them repeatedly, and how clean the water is and how well you can see it.

but when i see a video like this, i have to mention one thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt9zSfinwFA you need to turn the phone by 90 degrees.

Yeah, I should have done that in the first place, but it was too late by then. Maybe I will make a bigger production video next time :)

Very interesting video! Cool pics, too.

I have some BPs who are very calm and almost calculated in the water, they seem to really like it. And then some who want nothing to do with it and will thrash/zip around until I take them out. I don't put them in water very often - only when they've soiled themselves or after they have laid eggs.

That may have been one of the most interesting personal videos shared on here. He just goes for a little dive, ducks around a bit, then just comes back out on his own. Too funny.

That was pretty cool! Now I may have to see if Monty likes our aquarium. I was only worried about the fish being eaten. Do snakes even eat fish? I would think that the fish and everything else in the aquarium would register at just about the same temperature, so maybe they wouldn't "see" the fish as a prey object? Or maybe I just think too much. Lol

Some snakes do. Go to Google Images and search "snake eating fish." Across the globe their are snakes that eat much more than rodents.

Not any BPs that I know of.
Garters and other colubrids are better known to eat fish naturally.

I doubt it. I just wanted you to know their are snakes that do. Eggs, lizards, frogs, fish, worms, birds, snakes are some things that certain snakes use as food.

I've seen a carpet python eat gold fish. The aquarium store that is local to me also sells reptiles and they sometimes use feeder goldfish to feed certain snakes. BPs don't go for them but the carpet python certainly did. They put the fish right in the water bowl.
