    BP around a childs neck?
Is it dangerous to put a young bp (bout a year) around a childs neck, cause if it is i won't but he really wants to and thinks its cool, i want to let him buuut….
If not, is it dangerous for an adult to??????

How old is the child, are you talking about ur little bp that you just posted about? My snakes sit on my sons (5 years old) shoulders and neck. Just use a little common sense, obviously I wouldn't leave him alone with any animal at that age, but with supervision there isn't an issue....

I would say it depends on the child and if the BP is easy to deal with. I personally don't see a problem with it myself. My daughter got her first snake at the age of 8 and she puts it around her neck all the time.

Let me put it this way...I started working in exotics at the age of 11-12 years...first duty at the store: Clean breeder boa cage...even the 9ft female went around my neck when I pulled her to clean the cage. Even an adult ball python is going to find it rather difficult to take down a 5 year old...a big breeder female and a small toddler...maybe but I definitely wouldn't put money on it. I have found my BP to be most comfortable when coiled around my neck and it should not be an issue for any supervised child over 8 years of age. If he does get a bit tight, then simply unravel him tail first...sometimes they tighten a bit for security and/or anxiety from possibility of falling. Hope that helps.

There is always a chance that a snake can strike, any pet can bite. That being said you need to learn to read the snakes body language, has your BP struck before, is it stressed out etc. I really don't see an issue as long as the snake is calm. Handle the snake a little bit yourself and if it is calm and relaxed then it shouldn't be a problem, if it is stressed put it back in its enclosure and try again another day.

I don't see a problem with this as long as you know the snake and it's supervised. I would allow my cb12 on my 6 year old sisters neck as long as I was watching them closely (I haven't yet but I would), Any sign of him fully enclosing around her neck and I would move him.

My two year old plays with my three foot bp all the time. Holds him. Puts him on her shoulders. Is even able to pet his head. It all depends on the snakes temperament and a lot of close supervising. Im always right next to my girl while she holds garfield. Finn on the other hand i wouldn't let her hold cause he can be a little un predictable at times.

    That is absolutely adorable!

There is a thread in BP Pictures I'm sure which has BP's and children, I think as long as you know the child (as you very clearly do) and know the snake it should be fine under close supervision :)

It's fine - supervised. Tell them not to move fast, yell, slap, tug, bite, etc.

If this helps, my 13yr old daughter is allowed, with permission, to get out any bp i have that she wants to. The reason for permission is so I know she doesn't grab somebody who was just fed and so on. I have worked with her on handling, reading their body language, and so on so she knows. She is also aware of the major trouble she would be in if she doesn't follow the rules. as everyone has said, it comes down to the kid, snake and parent or whatever involved. Of course, some of the relatives may disagree, lol.

It really depends on the snake. Some of mine are neck/shoulder snakes, and they know how to hang on just tightly enough that they don't slip. Some of my others obviously aren't comfortable with it, though in stead of grabbing too tightly they're more likely to slide down my back and go hide somewhere.

My daughter is 11 and is very involved with all of our reptiles. She has learned to read their body language and can tell now when it's okay to handle them. I don't see a problem with kids handling snakes, that includes putting the snake around their neck, so long as they are supervised if they are young (I don't supervise my daughter because she's old enough IMO to not need it; she can handle herself and she's been bit and didn't freak out at all, so I have a lot of confidence in letting her carry on without me present. ANYONE new to snakes should be supervised at first - yes even adults!)

Like a scarf? No, even I get uncomfortable if my 3+ ft ball python squeezes to hard. I can only imagine how it must feel for a child that weighs at least 100 lbs less than me.
However, children can drape a friendly BP on their shoulders with supervision, and children can safely interact with a snake of almost any size with plenty of assistance and supervision. (Ex. Nature presentations with several children and two adults can be holding a 12 ft Burm)
