    Sarcasm Font??
So, after reading 2 threads that have nearly disintegrated due to lack of understanding sarcasm, I think this should be something we figure out.

Other forum lurkers inform me that there are some forum out there that designate a "sarcasm font", that way we can tell when the person is being serious, and when the person is being sarcastic/joking...

Do you think we need this??

    I second that notion!

I think it's a nice idea, in theory. However, getting people to actually USE it would be another matter entirely. And then when someone doesn't use it, their words are twice as likely to be taken wrong because they didn't use the "right" font.

Personally, I think folks just need to grow some thicker skin. Our entire culture is growing far too delicate and it's downright terrifying.

I think it would be a nice option, though. Obviously not everyone would even realize it existed. Hmm. I see both sides well, but I voted 'yes'.

This has been brought up before and the result was:

    look I'm being sarcastic

and then a week after the thread died I haven't seen anyone do it since.

I speak sarcasm fluently :devilish: and I can tell you that even in person sarcasm is sometimes hard to get, that does not mean I carry a sign saying "sarcasm ahead" in real life, I think it comes down to the fact that people have become way too sensitive.

Anyway as far as forum goes here is something for you http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/a...ys/Sarcasm.gif

Changing font on tapatalk is difficult. I don't even know if theres an option. I don't see one presently.

I'll be honest, I doubt I'd personally put in the effort to input different font for people who are ultra-sensitive or easily butthurt even if there was an option. If I was being sarcastic in the first place, then I most likely wouldn't care enough to explain myself if they couldn't read my sarcasm initially...........

Amen Judy!!!! Since when is it a right to "not be offended"? I wasnt aware that it was a right, but some people apparently swear it is......and exercise that "right" constantly....

I for one think there is a time and place for it.

There are also certain people you can go further with than others BUT keep in mind that everyone can see your post and those that don't understand might not like it.

I have seen a lot of "smart" responses when someone is asking a genuine question because they don't know any better. These are the ones that irk me.

I will be honest about it, for me it depends who you are and what mood I am in. I can take it as long as you think you can handle what I will throw back at you.;)

I think there is a two fold issue here. 1st: Some people need to develop a thicker skin. 2nd: Some people need to have their heads driven into a concrete wall over and over again until they can learn to be nicer to others. (Hmmm, was THAT sarcasm? I'll let you decide...) :D

That particular smiley was not in our directory but was pulled up by Deborah from some other source. However, it is NOW in our own smiley catalog and can be called up by typing :sarcasm:

    Try it! :sarcasm:

    This ^^^

Come on people, let's all learn to "deal" with life, and grow some thicker skin. Things happen, people get rubbed the wrong way, pull up your big girl pants and get over it. Seriously, people are WAY to out there and butthurt over things these days.

Whether it be online or reality, I'm honestly rubbish at detecting sarcasm.
I just take things seriously the majority of the time.

My boyfriend always teases me that I can never understand his 'jokes' or that I never follow his lead when he teases his mum. I've told him once to give me a signal whenever he's being sarcastic to someone so I can follow along. But that sort of defeats the purpose of the sarcasm and seems silly in the end, imo.
I feel like that also applies to this....

Wish I could have voted for both choices. I think the reason sarcasm is so hard to detect somtimes is simply that there are so many keyboard commandos out there it becomes hard to distinguish between the one just making a joke and those just being you-know-whats. I do agree though that most people just need to get over themselves and realize the world neither revolves around them nor owes them anything.

And I may just have to put this in my sig it's so cool :sarcasm:

I see absolutely no issues with this idea

But seriously... It's not a bad idea, but it would be very hard to implement and moderate

    Hey!

I think it is very difficult to comprehend emotion through text. If someone really feels the need to empathize or put emotion in their writings, the best way simply is to use emoticons, and capital or lower case letters. As far as people being sarcastic, I personally think it should be left out. Its fun to joke and mess around, but is very difficult to portray through text.

I think it would be best to just stick with emoticons :) A special text is slightly ridiculous haha

Heh, let me put that on my to do list.

If you need a font for it, you're not doing it right.

If you get offended by something someone wrote, you chose to be offended, deal with your own self and let others do the same.

The Wuss Factor is growing exponentially and I for one do not feel sorry for those too tender to play with others. If you're offended by something I say or write, I either meant to offend you or you're not getting it. Either way though I'll not be handicapping my posts with a cute little dealybob to make it easier for those too tender to be out from under Mommy's apron.
