Why is my snake so wrinkly?

Hey guys, my snake Mojo has been looking really wrinkly. He also is very active when I take him out of his cage and he keeps rubbing his head on my watch.

I'm pretty sure this means he's trying to shed his old skin, but it looks like hes having a hard time to me. Is this normal or should I soak him in warm water like some people recommend? He's been like this for the last couple of days now.

And could it possibly be dehydration? He has a dish full of water and I've been keeping the humidity at around 70 percent for him, so I don't think he is dehydrated.

what kind of enclosure are you keeping him in, and how often do u feed him?

That, to me, looks like a snake that's going to shed soon...

How are you measuring humidity?

If he's in shed, I would just put him back in his enclosure, make sure the humidity is up where it needs to be and let him do this thing.

Mine don't seem to like being bothered during their shed, especially during the last 2 to 3 days. They're supposed to be emotionless and expressionless, but I'd swear a few of them just look miserable at that time.

I've only had him for 10 days. I fed him last friday. I bought him from petco so I don't have any idea how often they were feeding him there.

I keep him in a 20 gallon terrarium. i keep the humidity up with a damp rag over the top, it seems to be working quite well.

I have an analog humidity gauge. Probably not super accurate but I've been keeping it ~65-70%

Those are notoriously inaccurate.

It works well and is not too expensive.

I think it looks like a snake that has passed its shed time and unable to remove it. I'd say you should go to 'how to fix a bad shed' protocol. Put the snake in a box with a damp but not soaking towel and let him crawl around in there for a while. When I bought my 2nd BP at Petco this is what I had to do shortly after purchase.

Thanks for the advice, but funnily enough I just went to get him out and put him on a damp towel, and he's already got his skin half way off. I'll just leave him alone for a few hours and check on him again in a while.

Yup. You should be good to go. Just check the tip of his tail when he's done to make sure he got it all the way off.

if you buy that for a humidity gauge i would run a salt test google it if you don't know. i have 2 1 has been salt tested to be in a -2 range and the other 1 is the 1 shown and pretty sure it's way off by ~10%

Use a warm washcloth, and sorta let him slide through that until it loosens the piece. It will usually come right off after a few minutes.

Dude,I agree..when mine just went threw shed I felt bad,he looked like he was in pain or uncomfortable,he looked sick. .this whole no emotion or whatever is a bunch of crap,all living creatures I have feelings..
