normal pastel???
-
Normal and pastels are different morphs. And that looks like a normal of a really really low quality pastel... I would say normal though.

I was told he is a pastel with his white lips n a little greenish eyes... so, I am really kinda confused... haha...:confusd:

He looks like he is in shed, but he looks like a low quality pastel to me.

OK Newbie question!!! How do you tell the difference between a low quality pastel and a good quality pastel? I am scared to ask what my guy is classed as ( although perfect in my eyes) http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...3aef545df7.jpg

Pastels are supposed to be yellow but many lose the yellows and turn brown.
Those are the lower quality ones.

One thing people don't really seem to look for is the kind of yellow as a baby. What I mean by that is generally (I say generally because there are always exceptions) the more orange or dark yellow the baby pastel is, the more it will brown as it ages. This also works for combos with pastel. The lighter the yellow, the less the snake will brown. People always tend to be drawn to very deep yellow babies which look great now, but down the road it can be tough to tell them from from normals. If you pick a light yellow baby, you are more likely to end up with something like this:

Here's another clear difference between the yellow of a pastel and the brown of a spider: Take note, this was taken while the pastel's eyes were blue (about to shed). Her dorsal color brightens after shed.

Pastels should retain the screaming bright yellow as an adult, if it doesn't have that to begin with, it never will.

You are so right about that.
I don't have a picture of my pastel as a baby as I got her as an adult.
But here are pictures of her 3 babies that show 3 different levels of yellow:
Baby 1:

Baby 2:

Baby 3:

As you can see, the first baby is more yellow than the 2nd baby. The 2nd baby is a bit orangey. The 3rd baby is a normal with really cool highlights.
Yes, these are bumblebees, not pastels, but this is the same idea with the pastels because bumblebees do brown out as well as they get older.
I don't have a picture currently of these guys as adults. I don't have the 1st baby anymore as I adopted her out to a breeder. I think she's an awesome example of the bumblebee morph and I think she would be a perfect one to breed. I have no plans to be a breeder. This one time was my idea of "getting more pets" without spending too much money. I'm going to see if I can get an adult picture of her (I'm also curious how she looks now). I'll take pictures of the other 2 when my kids get home.

Re: normal pastel???
Thought I'd throw my hat in the ring here, comparison of our pastel male when we got him at 2 months old, and now at 1200g

Crap lighting in the adult pic, but you can see his yellows are still strong.

Pastels are amazing at birth most of the time but they really brown out over time.. Mine was bright like the one pictured above and is actually DARKER than that now, except right after shed. I'd post a pic but I can't give him justice. :( he'd look like I sprayed spray paint in him. Still, pastels are a good morph and have given us so many combos over the years. And my favorite with are pewters. :)
