    Question for rack people
So I have a rack system from C Serpents and I swear I have like 40+ holes in my tubs, front & back & I even had to add 4 on each side and I still can't get the humidity in the 60's. Any help guys/gals would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather avoid having to put more air holes in them, though I will if I have to.

    Question for rack people
What bedding are you using, how long has it had to air out, and what diameter are your water bowls?

I'm using Aspen, very thin layer and I let them all air out this morning for like an hour and I even dried the inside of the tubs with a towel to make sure.

The smaller ones have a 5" diameter water bowl and the 700g Bee has a 6". The 5" was the smallest.

I would let it go longer. For me it seems once an accurite has seen high moisture it takes a long time to settle back down. I have seen a huge jump from evening until the next morning. Just out of curiosity have you checked the humidity outside of the tubs?

    Question for rack people
Have you tried cross-checking with a different hygrometer? What is the actual humidity reading?

Yea, humidity outside of the tubs is in the mid 50's.

I know that acurite can be annoying to get to level out but the first one I had was defective and the only thing that made me check it was the fact it never moved, so I took one from my other snakes to check and that's when I realized the humidity. So I went to Wal-Mart and swapped them out and got another one, so it was never put in high humidity. I normally pull the battery out to reset the high humidity reading.

I have like 4 different acurite's that I use being I've always found them to be the most accurate. I left the thing in one of the snakes tub that I put a bit more holes into and I've managed to get them down to 67%. I hate living in Louisiana.

Maybe since your natural humidity is in the mid 50s, with that water bowl in there it pumps it up just enough? Is the water bowl over the heat tape? If so, move it to the cool side. I'm sure you have already tries this, but just throwing it out there.

I don't think you'll get them any lower. Per google, the average morning humidity in Baton Rouge is 88% and only drops to 56% on the afternoon. New Orleans is 88/61.

Yea, well as long as I can stay below 70% I'm fine. I just never actually used a rack system before so it's very challenging to get good humidity, especially because it's in the summer.

No, I never put the water bowl close to the heat tape, it's always on the opposite side, but thanks for still touching on that to help double check my list.

Yea, I don't think I will that's why I said as long as it's in the 60's I'm fine. Stupid Louisiana.

I'd rather battle high humidity in the summer than low humidity in winter!

For me that'll be easy, Tape off a few holes, or a row, and that's even if I have that problem which I don't think I will.

I thought being in GA, you'd have high humidity as well?

Awe, I'll capture some of my humidity and mail it to you priority :D. How does that sound?

    There is only 3 options

    A/ More Holes
    B/ Change subtrate
C/ Try to dry off your mulch, it's usually VERY wet straight out of the bag, I usually let mine sit in my snake room bag open for a week or two before using it.

Don't feel bad Neal. I live in Eastern PA and we see 50-90% humidity outside year round. I turned my tubs into dish strainers practically and used smaller water source to bring it under 70%

Now it goes anywhere from 50-70% in tub depending on outside and humidity in the room

The only thing that seems to bring down overall humidity for me is running a Ac but I gotta run it low so it don't kill my ambient temps

I'm using paper towels for substrate

So weird for me to contemplate this, I feel like it's SO humid here when it gets over 15%.

Less holes= more humidity. I have 8 C-Serpent racks. 5 small 3/8" holes on each side of a V-70 and 3 holes in the back... no holes in the front. I put the water dish about 6" from the front and my humidity is in the upper 60's low 70's and my shop is right at 50%. The farther you push that water dish back the more humidity you will get.

For really big girls I toss a few handfuls of cypress in when they blue up. Holds humidity really good and gets a nice clean shed.

V18 tubs only get 3 holes per side and 2 in the back.
