How to convince mom to let me feed live/ fresh killed
I feed all 3 of my snakes f/t rats. After awhile it gets really expensive. Ive noticed that live mice are much cheaper. She doesnt want me to because i would be killing the rat( Fresh Killed) or the snake would (live). Im 13 so its hard to make $$$ sometimes. How do i convince her?

I feed live personally, but from what I've seen of the prices, f/t is actually considerably cheaper if you're buying in bulk. If feeding live is strictly for monetary reasons, you're better sticking with f/t. Also, you'd want live RATS, not live MICE, if your snakes are big enough to eat rats.
What are the f/t you're buying? Do they come in a bag? How many to a bag? How much is it? If you figure it out to cost per rat, you'll likely find that f/t rats are cheaper than live rats (again, rats not mice). If you're buying them individually, consider buying them in bulk bags. It's much cheaper.

I get them from petsmart. They come in bags. 11$ for 1 med rat. 6$ for fuzzies. The med rat has 1 per bag. The fuzzies have 6.

where do you live? petsmart is the problem. try and find a local breeder to buy from. I don't feed f/t. but I even know you're paying way too much

DO NOT buy f/t rodents from Petsmart/Petco. They're super expensive! You're much better off buying from a company like: Rodentpro, layne labs and so forth depending on your location. Yeah you're going to pay a good amount for shipping but trust me it's way cheaper than buying f/t rodents from petsmart/petco.

    *Jaw hits floor*

Definitely look into buying bulk f/t from one of the companies previously mentioned, $11 for a medium frozen rat is obscene.

Unfortunately I don't. But most companies ship to all 48 states so it's worth a try. You can also look up reptile expos in your area and buy some there!

I know they have reptile shows in texas. need to see how close one might be to you. you could also post an ad on craigslist, it's free to post. someone else might post on here who could be in your area that might be able to help you more.

I actually had to re-read this multiple times. $11 for 1 medium rat? Boy, diss petsmart and order from one of the breeders people above me suggested. You will save money bigtime doing this :gj:

Not that this helps much now, but there was literally just the NARBC in Arlington last weekend...

Big Cheese Rodents is in Texas so I can guarantee you that you can probably get a bulk order for $50 and under, and I'm talking about something that will last you 6 months at least.

    http://www.bigcheeserodents.com/

Go there and give him a call. I'm sure shipping will be super cheap as well. He's probably about 30 mins or less from you so you can see about picking up from him that way you don't even have to pay for shipping.

    EDIT:

    Live Orders

Live orders may be picked up at our facilities located in Texas. We do have a $25.00 minimum order amount for facility pick-ups. We do have additional restrictions for this service, please contact our sales office for further information.

Sorry, we do not ship live rodents.
    ------------------------------------

If you can pickup live then you should be able to pick up frozen. So say you can get a 6 month supply for probably around $30 or so if I had to guess. This is who I order from all the time because he's the best pricing that I've found.

That's awesome and you'll get a hell of a better deal then $11 for one rat. You can probably get quite a few for $30, probably enough to last you a few months if you're using Medium Rats.

I'm just glad I was able to help you. Call him first thing tomorrow as I think he's closed for the rest of the day.
