Hypos lack black pigment. Speckling is fine but yours has far too much black. He does of the pinched bow tie saddles....but that's the only thing I see that would resemble a hypo. Plug "hypo boa" into google and you will see what I'm saying

Hm. I see what you are saying. I just dont know how he would have been labeled hypo and not be one with the man we got him from is all. I guess everyone makes mistakes though. I am not up on my boa morphs lol I know more about the BP morphs thanks to Coleslaw.
Its not really a big deal, he is mainly just a pet anyhow. His personality is really starting to come out, he is a funny guy and its weird me saying that since he is a snake lol

    Thanks though :)

Yes a very beautiful boa regardless. I'm hoping you didn't pay hypo price (which luckily isn't a huge amount more), because that's unfair to you as the customer. I don't see how he could mistake your boa for a hypo and sold it to you as such. It's one of the most common and easily identified morphs in the boa world

I'm a little confused. On "Boa" forums and websites a hypo (obviously short for "hypomelanistic") refers to the lack or reduction of black skin pigment.

So because there is some black there at all it means its not a hypo?

Because I have a EBV Red Group(one of the first 2 bloodlines) Hypo Pastel BCI boa. He has some black on him and not just speckling.

I think coming from EBV it would undoubtably be correctly labeled in accordance with its breeding.

    Whats abouts thats?

I can see how the bow tie saddles could have been misleading, but I also say too much black to be a hypo. Here's my girl to compare:

    http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i3...psfd252cfd.jpg

He's cute in his smooshy-faced-ness though!

I'll need to keep an eye out for the vendor when we go to the expo: I don't recall remembering them last year or the year before.

Oh no, sorry that I wasn't more clear. I said speckling is fine. A certain amount of black is fine. Just that theirs clearly has too much. If you notice around the tail saddles it's very thick. Many many hypos have black and some have a lot. It's almost always "speckling" though. But that one has too much.

When you combine other morphs/locality it can add even more black that's for sure. Take hypo leopard boas for example. Tons of black, but when you look at it you still know it's a hypo

I might yea, but I mean its not an uber huge deal but I will probably bring it up because thats odd that he would sell something as one thing and it not be that

I only payed 100$ for him :P I dont think thats too terrible, even if he isnt a hypo. What is he? Just a normal? He seems awfully light

Yea the difference is clear even without looking at saddles, he does have quite a lot of black.. He was there the last 2 years, usually set up in the front on the far left .

Oh and I cannot wait until he is as big as your girl, then his head will be extra mooshable! She is gorgeous btw

I'm really not sure what he could be. He is very very light and gorgeous. Maybe someone with more boa experience will chime in. If he's just a normal, he is a top quality one!

Lol yea I dont want to sound like all the people with the dinkers, what is he is he special  but he just looks much nicer than a normal but idk either, I am not very savvy in boa stuff

But he looked more hypo when he was younger, yeah?

Maybe he could be a pastel? I don't know much about the pastel Colombian morph though, just throwing it out there. If he's a normal he's super nice.

Here's my same girl when she was a little more wee, looking about the same size as your cute guy in his younger pics:

My first thought looking at him was some type of pastel, but didn't want to throw that out there because I was really unsure. I was thinking that because he's so light, and nice and clean. I don't know where the pinched saddles are coming from though. He's unlike any pastel I've seen

I, personally, think you got a better deal. That boa looks better than the typical orange hypo people sell.

First off, that is one gorgeous boa.

He is definitely not a hypo, as has already been stated. He could be a Hog Island intergrade, but personally, I'm not seeing much Hog in there either. However, I DO think he is certainly a pastel!! His baby pictures especially make me think that. He is beautifully pink and has a softer pattern. He is also quite clean. Now, there's no way to tell what line of pastel, but I do think pastel nonetheless.

No matter what, he is most definitely not a normal. There is something else going on here whether it's a crazy gene or a morph or a cross. And I would've paid more than $100 for him so I think you got a great deal on a very nice snake!

Here is a baby picture of my hypo female and the second is a pic of my baby Pastel Dream for comparison......

The people on another forum are saying he for sure needs to be bred lol gives me a good feeling knowing we have something a little better than your average hypo lol he might be bred, but I will have to figure out to exactly what :P

Oh and that Pastel Dream, DROOL! :O
