Do you pet your bp?
I have a friend. He calls his tigerpython Christina and pets and talk to her like its his daughter. I never pick up my bp. I feel it makes the same sence to pick up a goldfish and pet it. I actually think it prefers to be left alone. What do you think?
-
Do you pet your bp?
If you never pick up your bp, how do you take it out to clean its tub?
-
Do you pet your bp?
I don't "pet" my pythons but I handle then fairly frequently. Some more than others.
-
I can't help but think this thread would get a lot more action if you had titled it "Do you pet your Balls?"...
oh...and no, I do not pet my balls...Pettin' is for furry things... :D
-
I dont think a BP is like a goldfish though. I dont think they mind being handled. I dont treat them like children but i definately handle them often and it doesnt seem to bother them.
-
Re: Do you pet your bp?
I handle mine, not everyday but sometimes I'll grab one and have them out crawling around the bed or whatever for a while, during cleaning most get some time out. I like to stroke down their sides gently and watch them get tickly too.
-
I regularly handle all of my guys and yes, I'll admit to petting them. No, I do not baby talk to them but I will speak to them. They get a good morning, good night, and I'll ask them how they are doing. They each have their own personalities so some will get handled more than others. For example, my albino, Aria, has yet to be shy and whenever I open her tub, out she comes. She'll crawl all over me and if it's feeding day, head straight for the plate to choose out her rat before being put back. My pastave girl, Ceti, on the other hand, is more shy. She'll come out and coil around my neck but then she doesn't want to go any further. If I set her on the floor, she heads straight for a hide whether that's her hide or a pile of clothes. She doesn't get 'pet' as often as Aria or the others who love handling. As babies, I'll handle them quite a bit but as adults, I let their personalities determine how much. By then, it's not a matter of whether or not they are used to it, in my opinion.

i pet my balls lol!! but i dont baby talk them...one of my friends girlfriend baby talks a lot out of her snake and the rest of her animals

Re: Do you pet your bp?
I've got one that I get out all the time and I swear he thinks he's a dog. Lol. He even lets me grab him by the head (very very gently) and rock him back and forth like you would playing with a dog and he never pulls away or tries to bite. :D I don't talk to them though... That's just weird. Lol.

Do you pet your bp?
I wanted to take him out but my one-room apartment has quite a few places he might crawl into and might get hurt or unreachable

Of course I take him out to clean
-
Lol hm. I don't "pet" mine like a dog. I pick her up and watch her crawl through my hands.
I don't think they like being petted, or restrained.
-
Oh man, I'll go against the grain here and say I baby talk to my animals and it's borderline ridiculous. If I open a tub, it's followed by "Good morning my beautiful prince/princess, you look so beautiful today ohmygoodness, I can't believe what a pretty prince/princess you are. I think I love you now more than I did before just because youlooksocutetodayyesyoudo. Want to come out and see mummy? Ohyesyoudo and mummy wants to see you too, you beautiful boy/girl you "
So I think it also goes without saying that I pet them
-
Do you pet your bp?
Do you say goodmorning to your balls every day?
-
Re: Do you pet your bp?
I know everyone says they don't have feelings and react on instinct. But I have some that love to be massaged and don't even mind me running their head a little.

Sure do :D "Good morning my babies" and "Sleep tight my babies"
-
I handle all my reptiles, I don't "pet" my snakes (I do pet my turtle, he loves getting his shell rubbed!), but I hold them and talk to them all the time.
-
Do you pet your bp?
I have to admit. I also greet him every day when I come home from studies
-
Do you pet your bp?
I stroke my balls haha but I talk to them when I'm doing thing with them specially if their being crabby and trying to bite. The kinda GF says its funny watching me do snake or rat chores because I'm the only person she's seen who will try and reason with them or talk to them but never baby talk I'm a big boy haha
-
Theres no way i'm gonna have an animal around for 15+ years to just look at.
-
I pet my balls sometimes, like when I check on them daily, only a couple of them tho really, especially the one that does not like it, because she hisses at me every time, i find it cute. I also baby talk them, and now since its breeding season everytime I open the females cages I ask them where my eggs are :P
-
Do you pet your bp?
I try to handle my BPs every couple of days for at least 10 minutes, typically when I am misting the tanks. Yes, I pet them and talk to them. Even if it doesn't do anything for the BPs, I find it very relaxing. :-)
-
I pet all my Balls...on a daily basis...:D
Actually it depends on my BPs personalities....my lil pinstripe loves being handled and enjoys curling up in my hand and watching tv with me....my female is a mover and loves wrapping and snaking around my hands and arms...my lesser male doesnt like getting handled as much.
-
Re: Do you pet your bp?
I talk to mine a bit, I don't really baby talk to them, but if I peek into a tub I'll say "Hi, *insert name here*"
When I'm trying to get them to go into their tubs and they aren't cooperating I'll say something like "c'mon, guy/ dude " (or their name) for a male, or "c'mon mommas" (or their name) for a female. It's about like how I'd talk to any animal.
-
Do you pet your bp?
I find my self saying to all of my snakes" and you are doing that why!?! Wtf snake!" :)
-
I handle mine often but my daughter talks to hers and mine all the time. I never really noticed if my oldest "pets" them but our 4 year old does.
-
I like to play with my python every day. I feel
like yes, they like to be left alone, but only when they're sleeping, under their hide, if they just ate, or in shed. I think they like the attention and I think they like our warm hands on their belly's. Sometimes I like to pet my snake, but not in a way as if i'm petting a cat or a dog. I usually gently run my fingers along their sides and belly.

Do you pet your bp?
Maybe I should handle my balls more often. It sounds like fun. ;-)

Re: Do you pet your bp?
The only bonding I do with my snakes is with around my neck as I watch tv. My bigger python will chill around my neck for upwards of 30 min before I usually want to put it back because of temp and humidity concerns. But this is a constant topic of how much snakes like and blah blah. All I have learned from reading what people post is that some people are convinced their snakes respond in ways others don't believe possible. Sometimes I waiver on how much "emotion" or whatever you want to call it is behind snakes.

Use the straight concentrate, no watering it down.

I pet/touch/stroke my ball pythons regularly. They pretty much all enjoy it. I give soothing rubs/scratches on the back and sides, and I love to tickle their bellies and make them squirm like a little kid. I swear sometimes they would giggle if they could.
My especial favorites get more mommy time than some of the others, but everybody gets mommy time when they aren't in blue and cranky, or have just eaten. My biggest female Akashi, she's my special angel. She loves to come out and see me. She climbs up and down my arms and back and shoulders until she gets comfortable, then she just lays around my neck and shoulders. She'll stay there for hours if I let her.
Yes, I talk baby talk to my ball pythons, why wouldn't I? Even though they all have names, they all have "pet names" as well. I tell them good morning and good night, and they regularly get kisses as well. I'm a lot more afraid of getting salmonella from bad produce than I am from my snakes. My especial favorites also get nibbles sometimes. Akashi loves getting mommy nibbles. I nibble by pulling my lips tight over my teeth and then kind of "gumming" along her back or side. She also gives me kisses, and I mean she comes right up to my face, looks straight at me, then bumps her nose against my mouth then flicks her tongue at my lips. Nago my het pied gives me kisses in the same way.
Several of mine whisper sweet nothings in my ear. That really tickles. I talk baby talk to mine a lot when it's feeding day. "Wassum hungry baby? Wassum hungry? You want a wattie hon? Hmm, do you want a wattie? Yes you do, you wants a wattie! You better get it! You better get that wattie before it gets away! That's my sugarpea! That's my good baby, you gottum wattie!" Stuff like that. My husband frequently asks me if I am okay during these performances, but the babies all understand what I say so I just tell him to go away. :P

Just one of the hidden gems that can be found on a forum for pythons of the ball variety.

My albino is shy, so I wouldn't pet him while he's in his cage, but after I take him out, I can put him on my lap, holding part of him with one hand and stroking his sides with the other. I have to go slow with him though.
My normal is pretty unaware that he's a ball python. He's hardly ever head shy, will let himself onto my arm after opening his cage, and is content just hanging around in bed. He gets lots of pets and holdings and shoulder time. From multiple people too. He's content sitting around a stranger's neck and licking their face for long periods of time. He comes out from his hide to sit on top of it for a little white every morning when I wake up, and wanders about right before I go to bed, like clockwork every day.
