    The "Washout Gene"..?
i thought i had remembered seeing a thread on this at some point in time but could not find it through the search engine. the washout "gene"... what is it..? is it real? is it a marketing ploy? it isn't on worldofballpythons.. even the almighty google didn't yield much information. there's an ad right now on fauna (not the first one i've seen) for a pastel lesser calico "washout" clearly stating it's a 4 gene animal. it was my understanding that when calicos are mixed with multiple other genes the CALICO gene has a tendency to wash the snake out, but now we have claims of another gene being at play.. are they claiming it's a hidden gene that some calicos happen to have? i would have believed it to be the higher quality calicos that caused more of the washout effect and not an extra gene. can anyone clear this up for me?

Must be from Powerhouse Reptiles and their fake genes. Just like their Womas are the "original hidden gene Womas"

Look up Morph King Reptiles about Joe and Wes. You'll learn what you need to know there. These guys have done nothing but run this industry down from the beginning.....

the thread reminds me of a gene that really exists and that is in the morph list, and that would be fader.

but i never heared about washout. most likely a marketing lie.

its really a good thing that the people at WOBP require good photo documentation, and they are skeptical and refuse to publish stuff when they are not convinced.

There's already a "washout gene" it's called champagne. It blurs out colors and patterns.

"Fader" is not a gene either, no more than washout. It's a polygenic trait, and their is absolutely no evidence to suggest that it segregates in a Mendelian fashion like all other ball python morphs. It's funny that morph king gets run over the coals (which they absolutely should) while everything from NERD is believed implicitly despite the many incorrect "theories" that have cost people thousands over the years ("hidden gene" woma, "hidden gene" lesser, the whole lucifer isn't vanilla despite not doing the required breedings to prove it, the pcp champagne line that is nothing more than pastel champagnes, etc).

Read this thread, I recommend reading all of it.

I think the 'Fader' gene is similar to the 'High Contrast Albino' gene. Just another way to squeeze a few extra nickles out of a morph.

grrrrrrrrr i hate it when breeders just make stuff up.

Now that i see that all the fader-stuff in WOBP is from NERD, i really think its nonsense, because NERD never proves anything out properly. ill get less sceptical once claims NERD makes are confirmed by others.
