So Who Randomly Friends People On FB?

So, on Facebook, from time to time, I get seemingly random Friend Requests. They are not friends or friends of friends. They are just random people from other parts of the country or world. At first I thought maybe it's someone thinking I am someone else. But when I look at the other friends on their profile to see if maybe I know someone, they all appear to be random people.

So does anyone here do this? Would anyone even accept a random Friend?

It's not like FB is Xbox Live. FB is for real friends and family to keep track of me. I would never just randomly FR someone. And I won't accept a random FR. Heck, there are friends of friends I have turned down simply because I didn't know them well enough. I have to make sure 100% who someone is before I put them on my Friend list.

I think if you use FB for it's intended purpose, you're playing with fire by Friending people you don't know.

Am I alone in thinking this way?

I hate when someone friends me and i accept it and then they get pissed when i post something offensive.

I have over 3000 reptile related friends, all who sent me friend requests.

I don't except friends I don't know, when ppl from her FR me I try and make sure their from the site before I accept it. But I have crazy exs who will make fake accounts to spy on me it's quite sad and annoying.

Most of my randoms are reptile friends

Absolutely not. I've seen more than a few of my FB friends fall victim to some random person friending them that turned out to be a scammer/hacker that posted links that compromised their accounts.

I find that I use Facebook less and less now. Too many adds, and the fact that they can use your info/profile picture for advertising really puts me off. I understand that they are a company and they need to turn a profit, but they are going about it wrong. I would gladly pay a reasonable monthly fee ($15-$25) to get an add free/more private Facebook account.

Anymore I use my fb for reptiles. Mostly reptile groups I'm in or what not. I have family too, but usually I'm just looking at local animals for sale or sharing information.

Slightly off topic from Chris's original question, but I think it all comes down to what you want to use it for. I have a business page on FB, but not a personal profile. Part of it is because I'm an introvert and am turned off by all the drama I hear about when someone's "status" gets changed or they're unfriended, etc., and part of it is because I already have this forum, three email addresses, a website, and a few others to keep up with, and it's enough!

I only accept requests from reptile folks :D. I they don't have mutual friends. Or if they don't have a single reptile picture or mention, I won't accept it. Nobody random out there thinks I'm so hot that they couldn't help themselves from sending me a request. LOL :rofl:

I can go anywhere in the us I want for last four years I just can't leave us cuz I can't get a pass port till I'm 28. I got in trouble when I was 18 put on two years probabtion and not aloud a passport for ten years.

Just to be clear, I am talking about a run of the mill personal FB not a public front account like a business or celebrity.

I have no problem accepting an FR from someone here but I would have to know it was for sure that person. Like if Robin sent me a an FR I'd accept because I know her whole name and where she lives and such so I could confirm it's her. But let's say Mike12345 wanted to friend me but I don't know his last name. So I'd expect him to say "Hey! It's Mike12345 from BP.net" then I'd accept.

And I only accept those that are reptiles related (I don't accept just any request)

It's a way to promote my breeding business and reach that many people that I would not reach otherwise.

Now because they are reptiles related "friends" does not mean they won't be blocked if necessary (anyone adding me to a group without my consent is immediately blocked)

I do not click on FB link either.

I have had my account since 08/09 and it has NEVER been hacked.

I will accept a request from (almost) anyone I've met in person. I met a few people at Tinley a couple years back and added them to FB and it's been a nice way to keep up with them and meet up with them again at the next NARBC (rather than just trying to randomly run in to them).

I try to keep my personal profile and my reptile profile as separate as possible. A lot of my friends list is NOT reptile related so I try to post snake-related things on the business page and personal things on my page. I've "invited" my whole friends list to like my business page if they want to keep up with my snake's lives.

I mostly use FB to keep up with family and friends I don't live near (we're spread out all over the world). It's a nice way to be able to see pics of my cousins' kids without having to mail/email pics and vice versa.

I don't ever get random friend requests. If it is a name I don't recognize, it always ends up being a snake person :gj:

I just accept them...usually turns out reptile related, however, there was this one guy from Indonesia that asked me to do his English homework for him...

For my reptile account, I usually accept since they're reptile-related friend requests.

For my personal account, random friend requests are Dikembe Mutombo'd; that is to say they are flat-out rejected.

I use my real name on facebook and accept anyone who asks, I've sold more than a few snakes that way :D
I normally do not post snake related stuff on my own timeline though, just in closed groups ...

Nope, if you friend request me you better know me at some capacity.

I accept almost everyone who sends a friend request because I feel bad selecting the "deny" option. I give it about two or three days and then I delete them. So far no one has noticed! Every few months I go through and delete anyone who I don't talk to or regret adding in the first place.

I've been getting a TON of random requests lately... like, no interests whatsoever similar.

And then you re-add them later that day out of regret? Or am i a special case? :D

Yes, you're definitely a special case. And I'm not talking about Facebook.

I don't make random friend requests, and I don't accept random friend requests. I have to know the person in some way before I accept their request. On top of that... if I don't know them very well, they are added to my "strangers" list, which restricts them to seeing only a very very small part of my profile using the various security settings available.
