    Albino Question
I was told recently that I should not breed an albino with another albino because they usually create snakes that have defects such as kinks and missing eyes. I haven't seen anything about that. I am doing all of my research now and I have yet to breed anything. I am just working on setting up what I would eventually like to breed for.

Now im curious too. I havnt heard of that. How else would albinos get made?

I believe they misheard. Its Caramel albinos that have the kinking issues. A caramel to a caramel probably has the biggest chance to produce kinked/deformed babies but it can happen from caramel to het as well, depending on how close they were related and if that particular line of caramel has kinks. Say for instance the Ultramel caramels are a kink free line.
Regular albinos I have never heard of them ever having such issues I've seen albino to albino clutches with perfect babies.

Not to be confused with Crider line Caramels. Which so far seem to have no kinking issues.

No issues with albino x albino.
Those problems from that pairing is most likely an incubation issue than genetic.

Missing eyes in ball pythons is almost always due to incubation.

OK I wasnt sure but I figured I would ask. I have done a fair bit of research and had not seen anything about those kinds of issues in regular albinos. Thanks for the confirmation.

regular albinos, the ones known for decades, are totally fine. If you want to breed albinos then buy albinos where paperwork exists and can be requested, reputable breeders have that data, and then just breed unrelated albinos together and you will have no problem.

When it comes to albino, no genetic problems are known, no reasons to worry.

You only want paper work for hets...
You don't need them for visuals......

I think we've just about dropped "caramel" off the Ultramel and Crider (still waiting to see if those two are the same) mutations names. It's very confusing as perhaps one of them was the original "caramel" but neither has anything to do with the unrelated mutation that is now called caramel.

As far as I know all lines of the actual caramel mutation kink and the tendency is part of the mutation and not related to inbreeding. I think the main source of the rumor that you have better odds of avoiding kinks by using het caramels was because the homozygous caramel females tend to lay sluggs.

While I've not heard of any problems with albino ball pythons I have heard of eye problems with one of the albino boa morphs but I've not followed it much. What sort of incubation problems (hot or cold) cause eye problems in ball pythons? Maybe the albino boas tend not to heat regulate right as a side effect of that boa albino mutation.

It's usually temperature heat spikes during incubation from a faulty T-stat error.

What you are referring to is ablino x albino boa breedings NOT ball python. There have never been any issues with ball pythons like there USED to be with the Boas. To my understanding it is not so much an issue with boas anymore do to the extensive outcrossing. I am sure it is still common in some collections, but any responsible breeder has taken the proper precautions to not inbreed so heavily.

^^^ This. It used to be quite common in Boas, especially the sharp line but it's been known to happen in both lines. There are no problems with Albino ball pythons.
