    This is hard!!!
Anyone else find the hardest part of getting ur first bp to be not handling it for a few days after u first got it.. I swear she's sitting in her hide with her head poked out looking at me licking and thinking.. "hey pick me up let's chill homie"

I completely feel you there, I just got a new addition in on Thursday and he has been chilling in his hides and I have seen him cruising around at night time (easy to see since he's all white :) ) Luckily he ate today so I will get the chance to take him out in about three days to handle him some and get some pics

BEL? I want one of those too.. Haha addicted already!

The breeder advised me to attempt a live adult mouse or rat pup on Tuesday night.. I just brought her home today but he said he normally feeds his babies the day after they get back from the expo.. So I will b getting a pup tmrw after work to leave in a container next to the cage.. Maybe it will help get her excited she's also about to go into she'd so she's a bit nippy when I did have her out but onlybif I move to quick.. Hopefully by Friday or sat she will b de stressed enough for me to get some pics of her outside the cage and not In a pretzel hash

Yep, he is lesserXmojave :) I found a video somewhere of how to deal with a nippy baby bp if she doesn't calm down for you soon. Congrats on the new addiction, oh I mean addition!

I'm not getting why people are so afraid to handle their new snakes I have eight balls and I might give them a day to get settled but I start holding a little the second day I just hold them not moving in my lap until they unroll and start moving around. Check them out a little then put them up. And I try to feed in a couple days, if they don't eat I give them a day then try again. All my snakes eat voraciously even twice a day if I don't have appropriately sized rats. Maybe I'm just lucky so far

I'm being particularly cautious because this little guy is only 146g and I just paid more for him than probably every other pet I've ever had added up. I did a bit of a cost-benefit analysis and decided to air on the side of caution to allow him to get established with a meal in him before I handle him much. Besides, there is some value in delayed gratification.

Im in the same boat. I went to the Scott Smith All animal expo in Wheaton Il today and picked up a stunning 6 month old female VPI Axanthic. Right now she is chillin in her hide. I figure I will offer some good in a few days.

It's more of a precaution thing. I have a tiny boy calico that was very stressed and nippy for about 2 weeks after he arrived. I handled him during that 2 weeks to try and calm him down. He didn't eat anything (live or f/t mice or rats) until after I left him alone for a week or so. Most bps come around but its better to leave em alone for a week or until the first feed. If they feed, they are probly ok with being handled.

I guess its best to take it slow some of these snakes are a big investment. I just haven't had any problems so far knock on wood.

Handling depends on the snake. Once you get to know your bp you'll be able to tell what kinda personality they have. My pastel never wants to be in her tub and loves being held, my cinnamons would both prefer you never take them out of the tub. Just depends on the snake. Once theyre eating regularly though i handle them whenever.

Where did you get her from?? I saw some really nice VPI axanthics while I was cruising through the show :)

We gotta meet up next time!! Are you guys going to repticon next weekend?

But yeah, its hard to resist handling new pickups. When I only had a couple of snakes I was so anxious to hold them. Now I have enough to keep me busy during the week I need to leave them alone :)

Its probably not going to be much bigger than AAE, I won't get into it on here, but some people view repticon as competing with AAE even though it is only held twice a year as opposed to twice a month. It is a new show, so there aren't too many people vending yet. I had a nice time when I went during the summer!
