I know people preach qt like a religion haha. But If I'm willing to pay for any and or all my snakes to a vet (that I trust to make sure the snake is healthy) after quarentinin for two weeks to look for signs of sickness. Please if you don't think a quarantine after this would be necessary then please say so. Don't say qt longer! Just because people are gonna disagree. I want EVERY individuals opinions. Thanks!

I'm not really sure what you're asking. Most people on here will tell you to quarantine for a minimum of 3 months. There's someone on here that quarantines for a year. Snakes have a slow metabolism and illnesses can pop up over time. Two weeks just isn't enough time to really look for things like mites, RI, mouth/scale rot, etc. You should have a fecal done and an exam to make sure the snakes aren't carrying any parasites as well. I'm not sure you're going to get a lot of people posting saying 2 weeks or less is great quarantine protocol. Granted, we can't make you quarantine. They are your snake and if you're willing to risk their health and can afford to treat illnesses that you could have prevented, by all means, don't have a long quarantine time.

If your asking for people to say it's ok to only quarantine 2 weeks you're slithering up the wrong termite mound, so to speak ;)

Not long enough even if followed by a vet check. Ultimately those are your animals so if the risk is worth it to you, you can do so it's up to you.

Personally I am not playing Russian roulette with my collection, I have too many animals and invested too much to take any type of risk. I have struck quarantine practices always had always will.

No I didn't want to people to tell me it's okay. I really want there opinions if that's how they feel and what they do. And I planned on getting fecal check. Also I always wash my hands before and after handling any animals

How long would be minimum? I am willing to pay (literally) If my mistake spreads illnesses. I want all my snakes to be healthy and happy. So I will whatever people generally condone as long enough of a qt.

I've never had a fecal done, I don't believe that's necessary at all, and I've only seeked the help of a vet for a known issue, but quarantining new snakes if you care about the ones you already have, is a necessity.

I usually do 60 days, by then I know if a snake has a respiratory issue.
I treat all new snakes as if they had mites and everything new gets their quarantine tub treated.

If you don't care if any of your snakes get sick because of a slow showing illness then add them whenever you feel you want too noone on the Internet is gonna change your mind one way or another. I live in a small trailer home I qt in living room or bedroom and after three months they can go in snake and rat room. Granted I have only two snakes right now but gonna pick up six soon here so do what you feel is right in the end just member people warned you if anything happens and vets are spendy

This is not being over-cautious. These diseases are not rare enough, and the risk is just too high.

Sorry I didn't want to come off as rude in any way, I felt your original post was putting it in a way as to what would be easier for you despite the health of your animals. So again sorry for any miss understanding but yes three months is what i have learned to be recommended but reading other posts I'm wondering if a longer time would be better.

Thanks. It's okay. I just don't want people thinking I don't care for my animals and that's how it came off to me as. I love my animals and if three months is minimum then it'll be three months because that seems to be the general consensus.

Yep like I say go with what you feels right 3 months 3 days 3 years its Internet bro we can't effect your life too much :) I'm sure you take fine care of your critters. When OT anything I like making sure it's ok an not gonna harm anything else since like I said vet is expensive so why pay for many when you can limit the damage to one should a problem arise

I see you're point. Space is very limited and I figured it was a longshot but i thought it was worth asking. I'll just have to make it work!

Ya space is a short here too so I have my snake/rat room and my qt set up is going in living room with back up two tubs in bedroom haha

Sometimes people come off a little harsh. I think a Qt is just a given, the length is up for debate. Most peolple do stay around the 60 to 90 day mark. Most people with larger collections using racks it doesn't take up much room to set up a good Qt rack, but space is definately an issue. My wife loves our Bp's but she even bust on me about the zoo every once in awhile lol. Basically it's your call and I'm sure you will be fine.

Qt is a personal choice. There is no quarantine police that will come knocking on your door.

There was actually just a thread about at that had some good responses, but I will reiterate that here.

The people who are doing strict quarantine for 3+ months are the people who are trying to prevent a collection killing illness from spreading. There are quite a few people who don't have immaculate quarantine procedures and that's okay. What I am looking for during at is stuff that shows up in the short term because the fact of the matter is, if a terrible disease or virus got into my home, my qt wouldn't likely stop it. So instead I quarantine for things I can sew and easily treat. Parasites, mites, bad sheds, respiratory infections.. those kind of "common" problems.

Quarantine as long as you want or until you feel the snake is healthy enough to be around your other animals.
